Hattie Zivko

Hattie Ida Schielke was born February 20, 1920 in Langundorf, Poland, the daughter of Oswald and Ida (Lehmann) Schielke. She came with her family to the United States and settled in Moon Lake Township, near Windsor, ND, where she was raised and attended the rural school. She later attended Jamestown High School, graduating in 1938, and went on to Valley City State College where she received her teaching certificate. She taught at the rural Windsor Township School, where there were 12 grades in one room, and later attended nursing school at Dunseith, ND. She then worked at San Haven near Dunseith, ND and later at a Bismarck, ND hospital and then as a nurse's aide in Fargo. ND. In 1942, she married Arthur Quigley at Moorhead, MN. In 1948, she married Lyle Thorman at Montana. Hattie moved to Minneapolis and met and married Nick Zivko at Sioux Falls, SD in 1972. They continued to live in Minneapolis where Hattie worked in a factory. In 1974, they moved to California. Nick died in 1983 and Hattie moved to Jamestown, ND in 1987. In 2001, she moved to Fargo, ND and in June of 2001, she entered Manor Care Nursing Home in Fargo.
Hattie enjoyed 2 trips to Hawaii with her daughter, Sandra and grandson, Jonathan, several trips to Las Vegas and visits back to California. She also enjoyed reading.
Hattie was a member of First Assembly of God Church, Jamestown, ND.
Survivors include a daughter, Sandra Johns, Seal Beach, CA; a son, Lyle Thorman, Fargo, ND; 3 grandchildren, Jonathan, Texas, Teresa and Wendy, both of Washington; 6 great-grandchildren; 6 sisters: Gertrude Zroker, Minneapolis, MN; Ruth Barton, Parker, CO; Helen Zimmerman, Lincoln, NE; Erna Kable, Detroit Lakes, MN; Elsie Robyt, Jamestown, ND; Shirley Quesnel, Cedar, MN; 2 brothers: Walter Schielke, Bismarck, ND and Ernest Schielke, San Bernardino, CA.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Nick Zivko; 2 brothers: Bennie and Reinhardt and an infant brother.
