Hazel Hetland

Hazel Hetland, 86, Jamestown, ND, died Sunday, March 23, 2008 at Jamestown Hospital, Jamestown.

Hazel Knutson was born October 11, 1921, in Toledo, Iowa, the daughter of Sivert and Ingaborg Monson) Knutson. She moved with her parents to Dawson, ND where she attended school. Hazel married Benjamin Engels on November 26, 1947 in Jamestown. They farmed in the Wimbledon, ND area where they raised seven children. Hazel moved to Jamestown in 1964 where she worked for the Jamestown College and Anne Carlsen School for Children. Hazel married Harold Hetland in Jamestown where their home has been since. He died in 2004.

Hazel's hobbies included painting on kitchen towels, gardening, and birding.

Hazel is survived by three daughters, Gayle (John Vee) Trangsrud, Mason City, Iowa, Joyce (Jerry) Dunihoo, Vancouver, WA, and Elizabeth (Rob) Walker, Jamestown; three sons, William (Nettie) Engels, Augusta, GA, Larry (Cindy) Engels, Jamestown, and Jerry Engels, Jamestown; 10 grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren; 5 great great grandchildren; and two sisters, Elnora DuFrene, Springdale, Arkansas and Lillian Swanson, Arizona.

She was preceded in death by her parents; two husbands; one daughter, LaVonne Seekins; eleven brothers and sisters.

Funeral Service: 3:00PM, Thursday, March 27, 2008 at the Eddy Funeral Chapel with Pastor Bryce Tahran officiating.

Visitation: 1:00PM - 8:00PM, Wednesday, March 26, 2008 at the Eddy Funeral Home.

Burial: Prairie View Cemetery, Wimbledon, ND, at a later date.
