Hazel Nichols Redmann

August 12, 1925 — February 22, 2006

Hazel Nichols Redmann went to be with her Lord on February 22, 2006. Hazel was born August 12, 1925 on a farm near Millarton, ND. She was delivered at home by her maternal grandmother, Eva Parfit and was the 10th of 14 children. The family moved to Marion, ND where she attended Greenland School for her elementary years. Later, they moved to Millarton where she attended high school until 1941 and finally to Grand Rapids, ND where she graduated in 1943 with honors.

In 1944 Hazel and Eugene Redmann were married. She lived at her parent's home in Grand Rapids while Gene was in the Army in the South Pacific. After his discharge they made their home in Jamestown. They have resided there ever since.

Hazel has two daughters and sons-in-law: Linda and Jerry Suko, Bismarck and Beth and Dave Swanson, Rock Springs, WY and two sons and daughters-in-law: Gene and Kathy Redmann, Jamestown and Tom and Paula Redmann, Bismarck. She also deeply loved six grandsons: Bob Suko and his wife, Becky, Hutchinson, MN, Matthew Redmann, Minneapolis, MN, Adam Redmann, Grand Forks, ND, Kyle Redmann, Jamestown and Alex and Max Redmann, Bismarck, two granddaughters, Kris Mikkelsen and her husband, Mike, Argusville, ND and Julie Swanson, Las Vegas, NV. Hazel counted herself blessed to have also the joy of six great-grandchildren: Emily, Noah and Grace Trangsrud and Katelynn Mikkelsen, Argusville, ND and Ellie and Baylor Suko, Hutchinson, MN. Hazel loved all children and often said that ""the children of the world belonged to all of us and we dare not neglect one."" We all saw that love of children throughout her life.

A great part of Hazel's life was spent at First United Methodist Church in Jamestown. She loved her church. Her kids always said if you couldn't find Mom at home?check the church. Much of what meant so much to her was teaching Sunday School and Bible School. She did it as a young mother, as a grandmother and as a great grandmother. For many years she also picked up children from schools around town and brought them to choir at the church on Wednesday afternoons. She felt it was what she needed to do and she loved doing it.

She served in many offices and on many committees at the church and had been a member of Marcy Circle for more years than she could remember. She also believed very strongly in the work of the United Methodist Women and held many offices on the local, district and state levels.

Hazel also belonged to Church Women United for many years and held offices there. She was recognized on the national level as a Valiant Woman in 1985. This was in part for her more that 25 years on behalf of UNICEF in Jamestown. You could always count on Hazel to see that the children had those orange boxes at Halloween to collect pennies for the children of the world.

Always interested in what her children were doing and what she could do to help, she served on the PTA as they were growing up. That interest in their lives and their children's lives continued as she attended basketball, soccer and football games, or piano recitals?whatever they did. You could always count on her support.

Hazel is survived by her husband, Gene, their four children and their spouses, 8 grandchildren, 6 great-grandchildren, two sisters, LaVerne (Glen) Richardson, Gladys Reidman and three brothers, Harvey, Lawrence (Mary) and LeRoy (Virginia) Nichols.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Daisy and Robert Nichols, her brothers, Harold, Clifford, Robert and Luman and sisters, Irene, Dorothy, Ethel and Daisy.
