Helen Elizabeth Fischer

Helen Fischer, 82, Edgeley, ND, died at MedCenter One, Bismarck, ND on Sunday, May 31, 2009.

Helen Elizabeth Baumgartner was born September 16, 1926 at Strasburg, ND the daughter of Damian and Katherine (Scherr) Baumgartner. She was raised on the family farm and educated in the Strasburg school. Helen worked on the farm and on July 15, 1947 she married Leo J. Fischer at Sts. Peter and Paul Catholic Church, Strasburg, ND. They farmed his father's land in Hague, ND, moved to Merricourt, ND and then settled on a farm in Edgeley, ND in 1949 where they farmed for many years. Following their marriage, Helen received her CNA certification. They retired from farming in 1990. Leo died in 1994 and Helen continued to live on the farm until moving into a home in Edgeley in 2001.

Survivors include her 5 sons, Lester, LaPuente, CA, LeRoy (Nanette), Placentia, CA, Ervin, and Allen (Kathy Vaughn), of Edgeley, ND, Ernie (Beverly), Selfridge, ND and 1 foster son, Andy, Aberdeen, SD; 5 daughters, Elaine (J.D.) Christianson, Camas, WA, Linda (Gary) Methven, Portland, OR, Leanne (Dennis) Chalker, Aurora, CO, Arlene (Jeff) Holomon, Cheyenne, WY and Cheryl (Chuck Bossingham) Fischer, Williston, ND; 23 grandchildren and 10 great grandchildren; 3 brothers, Anton "Tony" Baumgartner, Butte, MT, John P. Baumgartner, Portland, OR, Leo Baumgartner, Cuba, MO and 1 sister, Bernice Tate, Alder, MT. She was preceded in death by her husband; parents; 2 sisters, Dianna Baumgartner and Angie Ternes, and 3 brothers, Felix, Joseph, and Lawrence Baumgartner.

Helen was a member of Transfiguration Catholic Church and Altar Society, Edgeley, ND. She enjoyed music and loved to dance and taught her children to dance the polka. She enjoyed baking the families favorite German food. It gave her great pleasure to share her baking with the community. On many occasions she was asked to recite prayers in German.

Visitation - 10:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Thursday, June 4, 2009 at Lisko Funeral Chapel, Edgeley, ND and 1 hour prior to services at the church on Friday

Interment - Saturday 10:00 a.m., Mount Calvary Cemetery, Edgeley, ND
