Helen Mahlke, 82, Valley City, North Dakota, formerly of Wimbledon, ND, died Wednesday, May 26, 2004 at Sheyenne Care Center, Valley City.
Helen Brady was born February 7, 1922 in Pottsville, PA the daughter of John and Anna (Helwig) Brady. She grew up and attended school in Pottsville. On February 10, 1946 Helen married Arthur Mahlke in Pottsville. They moved to Wimbledon following their marriage. Arthur died on March 22, 2002. Helen continued to live there until she moved into the Sheyenne Care Center one year ago. Helen was employed at the Wimbledon Post Office for many years as a sub clerk.
Throughout her life, Helen enjoyed visiting with her friends, playing cards, tending to her flower gardens and participating in the American Legion Auxiliary. She faithfully attended her grandchildren's activities and was ""Grannie"" not only to them, but to their friends as well. Her great-grandchildren brought her tremendous joy. She had a unique personality and all who knew her have their own special memories and a story to tell.
She wasn't one to mince words and you always knew where you stood with Helen. Helen is survived by her three daughters; Elizabeth ""Beth"" (Gary) Bakke, Valley City, Renee (Duane) Huber, Wimbledon and Dee (Jeffrey) Greff, Regent, ND, four grandchildren; Michelle (Doug) Johnson, Steve (Christy) Huber and Alex & Zach Greff, four great-grandchildren; Cooper, Kelyn and Remi Johnson and Hadley Huber, four sisters; Mary Luppino, Reading, PA; Alda Howells, Pottsville, PA; Janet (Buck) Jones, Atwater, CA and Beth (Dave) Jones, Pottsville, PA and one brother, Robert (Lois) Brady of Pottsville, PA.
She was preceded in death by her parents and husband, Art.
Funeral Service: 1:00 PM, Saturday, May 29, 2004 at the Eddy Funeral Chapel with Rev. Robert Leiste officiating.
Visitation: 10:00 AM to 9:00 PM, Friday, May 28, 2004 at the Eddy Funeral Home.
Burial: Prairie View Cemetery, Wimbledon, North Dakota.
