Helmut Albrecht was born October 20, 1926, the son of Henry Albrecht and Luise (Koenig) Albrecht at Judson, ND. He graduated from Judson High School in 1944. Helmut was inducted into the US Army in March 1945. He spent about a year from October 1945 in Japan at Sapporo, Hokkaido and then Tokyo until was discharged from the service at Fort Lewis, WA in November 1946. Helmut graduated from Dickinson State College with a Bachelor of Science degree and also from Moorhead State with a Master’s degree. He taught at Elgin, ND, Cando, ND, and Jamestown High School for a total of 21 years. Helmut then went to work for Farmers Union Mutual Insurance Co. as a property underwriter and later as assistant manager. Helmut retired in December 1991.
Helmut is survived by his wife of 52 years, JoAnn (McClintock); stepdaughters, Kathleen McClintock of Minneapolis, MN, and Barbara (David Johnson) McClintock of Windham, CT; daughter-in-law, Jeannine Albrecht of Jamestown; granddaughter, Meredith Albrecht of Tucson, AZ; grandson, Larson DiFiori of Providence, RI; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; first wife, Florence (Gutschmidt); daughter, Debra; son, Timothy; brother, Arnold Albrecht; and sister, Hildegard Giese.
No service is requested. There will be a Memorial Military Graveside Service in the North Dakota Veterans Cemetery, Mandan next summer.
