Henrietta Van Dyke, 99, Marion, North Dakota died Friday, May 22, 2015 at Evergreens of Moorhead, under the care of Hospice of the Red River Valley.
A funeral service will be held at 2:00 PM, Saturday, May 30 at the North Marion Reformed Church, rural Marion, ND with Pastor Paul Peterson, officiating. Visitation will be held from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM, Friday, May 29 at Eddy Funeral Chapel, Jamestown with a prayer service to follow at 7:00 PM. Visitation will also be held at the church one hour before the service on Saturday.
Henrietta was born February 10, 1916, in the family home at Meadow Lake Township, Marion to Jacob and Rena (Roorda) De Vries. Henrietta's mother passed away when she was young and Margaret (Palenstein) Seybels became the new wife and loving mother to the family. Henrietta received her education at the Clark City School, as a young girl she worked at the Marion Hospital as a nursing assistant with Dr. Merritt and nurse Henrietta Jongaward.
Henrietta married Frank Van Dyke on May 9, 1940 at the family farm. They were married for 57 years and farmed near Ypsilanti, ND for 47 years. They retired in 1986 and moved to Marion, ND. While on the farm, Henrietta enjoyed Hobby Club with friends and neighbors and after moving to Marion was very active in the Senior Citizens Club.
Henrietta was a faithful lifetime member of the North Marion Reformed Church, teaching Sunday school and active in the Women's Organizations of the church and Women's Christian Temperance Union. Henrietta's hobbies were sewing, gardening and singing with her sisters. She was a wonderful wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother.
Henrietta is survived by her daughters, Marguerite (Arne) Johnson, Moorhead, MN, Lorna Van Dyke, West Fargo, ND; two grandchildren, Amy (Jacob) Jenkins, Minot, ND, Steven (Andi) Johnson, Hawley, MN; two great grandchildren, Eric and Caleb; two step great grandchildren, Camille and Breanna; one sister-in-law, Marie Van Dyke and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband, Frank, daughter, Kathryn, son-in-law, Arne, brothers, Steve (Tracy) De Vries, Peter (Hattie) De Vries, sisters, Ann (John) Dykstra, Agnes (Joe) Miedema, Clara (Leonard) Welken, Jessie (George) Boom, Jenny (Alvin) Van Enk and Hattie (Walter) Piehl.
