Henry E. ""Bud"" Van Beek, 97, Jamestown, North Dakota passed away on Tuesday, April 20, 2004 at Hi-Acres Manor Nursing Center, Jamestown. Henry was born in Westfield, ND on June 12, 1906 as the oldest child of Edward H. and Dena (Compaan) Van Beek. He was a self taught high school graduate and went on to complete Business College in Aberdeen, SD. Throughout his life, Henry's strong work ethic was demonstrated by working on the family farm, assisting his father with the moving of buildings, surveying, operating a hatchery business and carpentry. Many of the homes and buildings in the Jamestown area were built by Henry, and will be a reminder of his skill for years to come. Henry married Bessie Van Soest in Westfield on June 27, 1929 and they were later blessed with four children. The family lived in Westfield, Linton, Mandan and Jamestown. Following their retirement, Henry and Bessie enjoyed spending their winters in Florida. Bessie died on August 7, 1998 in Jamestown. Since January 27, 1946 Henry was an active member of the United Presbyterian Church. He was extremely proud of his faith and was dedicated to serving the needs of others. Henry is loved and will be dearly missed by many. His influence on the lives of his family and friends, will be a living testament to his character.
Henry is survived by his children: Carol Bolling, Lady Lake, FL; Curtis (Polly) Van Beek, Austin, TX; Claudia (Robert) Stewart, Greendale, WI and Carter (Sally) Van Beek, Jamestown, ND, his grandchildren, Jeff (Katie) Stewart, Waukesha, WI; Randy (Marilyn) Bolling, Tampa, FL; Paul (Carrie) Stewart, Wauwatosa, WI; Stephanie (Michael) Kadrmas, Jamestown, ND and Kristin (Marc) McChesney, Loretto, MN, his great-grandchildren, Bo and Blake Stewart, Waukesha, WI; Gregory and Julie Bolling, Tampa, FL and Evan and Riley Stewart, Wauwatosa, WI and his sisters, Margaret Bales, Bismarck, ND; Bessie Vander Vorste, Bismarck, ND and Edna Zoller, Linton, ND.
He was preceded in death by his wife, parents, one sister, Dorothy, two brothers, Gerald and Archie, four brothers-in-law, two sisters-in-law, a son-in-law, Norman Bolling and three great-grandchildren.
Funeral Service: Monday, April 26, 2004 at 10:30 AM at the United Presbyterian Church of Jamestown with Pastor David Thompson officiating.
Visitation: Sunday, April 25, 2004 from 1:00 to 5:00 PM at Eddy Funeral Home and Monday, April 26, 2004 from 9:30 to 10:30 AM at the church prior to the funeral service.
Burial: Westfield Cemetery, Westfield, North Dakota.
