Herbert N. Dobitz, 73, Jamestown, North Dakota, died Saturday, September 11, 2010 at Ave Maria Village in Jamestown.
Herb was born on July 27, 1937 near Regent, ND, the son of John and Katie (Lampl) Dobitz. Herb attended one year at Madison Township school, north of Regent, and then finished his elementary school in Dickinson, ND. He graduated from Dickinson Central High School in 1956. After graduation he was in the US Army and spent time in Korea. When he was discharged from the service, he attended Dickinson State and graduated in 1962. Herb married Elaine Hushka on September 26, 1964 at St. Patrick's Church in Dickinson.
Herb was employed by Farmers Union Insurance as a claims adjuster and later as an accounts representative. After retiring from Farmers Union, Herb drove school bus for Dietrich Bus Service.
Herb was a member of Basilica of St. James, where he served as a Eucharistic Minister and served on the Human Concerns Committee. He was also a member of the Knights of Columbus and the Stutsman County Harley Davidson Hog Chapter. Herb enjoyed people, he would talk to anyone and everyone, people were all the same in his eyes. He enjoyed all sports, and especially riding his motorcycle with friends.
Herb is survived by his wife, Elaine, Jamestown; one son, Doug (Cyndi) Dobitz, Viroqua, WI; one daughter, Julie Ann (Ben) Roeder, Portland, OR; eight grandchildren: Cody, Brittany, Katie, Melissa, Dylan and Kayla Dobitz and Jacob and Jaden Roeder; one sister, Charlotte Krebs, New England, ND; three brothers, Albert Dobitz, Regent, ND, Joe (Claudia) Dobitz, Bakersfield, CA, and Cliff (Carol) Dobitz, Surprise, AZ; three sisters-in-law, Rosella Dobitz, Morristown, SD, Vi Krebs, New England, ND and Lillian Dobitz, Billings, MT.
He was preceded in death by his brothers, Carl, John, Fred, Vernon and Kenney Dobitz; parents, John and Katie Dobitz and in-laws, Adam Krebs, Blossom Dobitz and Freda Dobitz.
