Herbert Fettig

Herbert Fettig, 74, Jamestown, ND, died Saturday, January 3, 2009 at his home in Jamestown, ND.

Herbert "Herb" Wendlin Fettig was born February 11, 1934 on the family farm in Selz, ND, the son of Emmanuel and Rose (Kraft) Fettig. He attended the rural school near Selz and then worked on the family farm until 1954, when he moved to Anaconda, MT where he worked at a smelter plant. On June 27, 1955, he married Phyllis Voeller at St. Mary's Church in Knox, ND. They lived in various locations including Granville, ND where Herb owned and operated a woodworking and upholstery shop. In 1975, they moved to Jamestown, ND where he built his home and worked at Wedgcor and independently as a carpenter and upholsterer. He retired in 1991 due to ill health.

Herb was a member of St. James Basilica. He enjoyed fishing, woodworking, quilting, playing cards and especially his grandchildren. He was a very inventive person.

Survivors include his wife, Phyllis, Jamestown, ND; 7 children: Dwight (Peggy) Fettig, Jamestown, ND; Dale (Tracy) Fettig, Jamestown, ND; Kerry Fettig, Jamestown, ND; Janice (Curt) Hofland, Jamestown, ND; Ken (Tracey) Fettig, Bismarck, ND; Brian (Janelle) Fettig, Mandan, ND; Stacy (Jeff) Hazer, Woodworth, ND; a foster son, Ed Ellis, Providence, RI; 25 grandchildren; 2 great-grandchildren; 5 sisters: Alice Volk, Harvey, ND; Florence Selensky, Anaconda, MT; Mary Burgard, Page, ND; Regina Fetzer, Jamestown, ND; Julie Sullivan, Urbandale, IA; 4 brothers: Joe Fettig, Minneapolis, MN; Emmanuel Fettig, Fargo, ND; David Fettig, Broomfield, CO and John Fettig, Bismarck, ND and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; an infant son, John; 4 brothers: Ed, Edmund, Adam, Ludwig and several infant sisters and brothers.
