Herbert "Herb" Arthur Witthauer, 89, Jamestown, ND, went to be with his Lord and Savior on Friday, September 14, 2012 at Eventide at Hi-Acres in Jamestown.
Herb was born June 19, 1923 in Slinger, Wisconsin, the son of Alfred A. and Norma (Thomson) Witthauer. The family moved to New Orleans, LA, where he grew up and attended school. He graduated from S.J. Peters High School in New Orleans and attended LaSalle College in New Orleans. Herb entered the US Navy on November 19, 1943 and served during World War II. He was honorably discharged in March 1946 and returned to college in Port Arthur, TX.
On July 20, 1955 Herb married Elva Cresap in Wimbledon, ND. They lived in Carrington, ND where he managed KDAK Radio Station and in 1965 he was employed by Aid Association for Lutherans as an insurance salesman. They moved to Jamestown in 1972. In 1982 Herb started Witthauer Insurance Agency which he owned and operated until his retirement in 1999. Elva died July 21, 1988.
Herb was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church and Jamestown Kiwanis.
Herb is survived by two daughters, Elise (Harold "Butch") MacKenzie, Fridley, MN and Melissa (Joel) Wiger, Chisago Lakes, MN; two sons, Paul (Lynnette) Witthauer, Jamestown and John (Kim) Witthauer, Shoreview, MN; and ten grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his wife; parents; a son in infancy; and two brothers, Alfred and Norman.
