Honey Bee Stoudt

Honey Bee Beatrice (Ogilvie) Stoudt , 86, Jamestown, died on Thursday August 6th, 2015 in Mahtomedi, MN.

Honey Bee was born May 8th, 1929 in Savage, Montana, the daughter of Reginald and Sadie (Pelton) Ogilvie. She moved with her family to Jamestown in 1934 and later graduated from Jamestown High School where she had the honor of being crowned the first Homecoming Queen in 1947. She met her lifelong sweetheart Dick Stoudt in 7th grade band. They were married in 1949 and had five children. She attended every event for each of those five and was their loudest cheerleader.

Honey Bee attended Jamestown College and was proud to be a Jimmie Jane. Later at age 50, she finished her degree with a double major in psychology and business, with a focus on architecture at Valley City State University. Soon after, she opened a downtown Jamestown shop called “The Honey Bee,” specializing in giftware and work by local artists. She was a member of PEO Chapter K, AAUW and was Worthy Advisor for Rainbow for Girls.

Honey Bee chose to live a life of high expectations. She thought little of television or cocktail hours and purposely used the time saved to accomplish many goals. She kept the TV in a closet for many years, bringing it out for 30 minutes of news. Honey Bee, Dick and friends established the Teen Canteen, created a German Band and encouraged her family to participate in music, including playing carols at Christmas on the U.S. bank corner. She held family French lessons, conversation lessons, dance lessons, exercise classes and “thank you card” writing lessons.

She expected participation in our community and beyond: Boys and Girls State, Boy and Girl Scouts, Rainbow and DeMolay, Athletics, Band, Debate, School Government, Church and Youth Group and College. She taught kindness, respect and responsibility. She lived her life knowing that she was called to a purpose greater than serving herself. Honey Bee succeeded in achieving and instilling these high expectations in herself and those around her.

She is survived by her three sons: Casey Stoudt (Sue), Jamestown; Jamie Stoudt (Mim), Lake Elmo, Mn.; and Dana Stoudt (Cecil), Excelsior, Mn.; two daughters, Beth Michaels, Atlanta, Ga.; and Melissa Stoudt (Gayle), Vadnais Heights, Mn.; a sister-in-law, Carol Stoudt, Fargo; seven grandchildren: Casey Jason Stoudt, Jamestown; Sarah Debruin (Tim), Mahtomedi, Mn.; Dan Stoudt (Anne), Lake Elmo, Mn.; Kelly Stoudt (Calli), Jamestown; Jordan Gammel, Oakdale, Mn.; Angus and Sabrina Stoudt, Excelsior, Mn.; nine great-grandchildren: Maguire, Micah, Reggie, George, Hendrick, Delia Bee, Faye, Willa, Jaydan; and special friends, Dave (Maxine) McConnell, Melissa and Amanda.

She was preceded in death by her parents; two sisters, MaJean and Joyce and her husband Dick.

Family will receive guests from 5:00 to 6:00 p.m., Friday, August 28th at the church with a Celebration Service beginning at 6:00 p.m.
