Howard McMillan, 79, Wimbledon, ND, died Thursday, May 25, 2006 at his home in Wimbledon, ND.
Howard Bruce McMillan was born July 16, 1926 on his grandparent's farm in Uxbridge Township, near Wimbledon, ND, the son of Frank and Tilla (Michaelson) McMillan. He was raised and attended the rural school in Uxbridge Township and attended Wimbledon High School, graduating in 1945. Following his graduation, he attended North Dakota State University for 1 year before entering the United States Army on May 28, 1946, where he served as a Private in the Signal Corps. After his discharge in 1947, he returned to North Dakota to farm with his father. On October 3, 1950, he married Shirley Falk at St. Boniface Catholic Church in Wimbledon, ND. When is father retired in 1959, Howard took over the farm and farmed until his retirement in 1988. He and Shirley moved into Wimbledon in 1992 and spent their winters in Chandler, AZ.
Howard served on and was chairman of the Wimbledon Creamery Board, the Wimbledon School Board, the Uxbridge Oil Company Board, the Frazier Elevator Board, the Farmers' Union Oil Board and the Barnes County Water Board. He was a member of the American Legion, the Wimbledon Community Improvement Corp and attended St. Boniface Catholic Church.
Survivors include his wife, Shirley, Wimbledon, ND; 7 children: Dianne (Bruce) Gronneberg, Cooperstown, ND; Cheryl (Carl) Okerlund-Hansen, Eugene, OR; Carol (Randy) Goldade; Jamestown, ND; Terry (Betty) McMillan, Wimbledon, ND; Jeffrey (Ruleen), McMillan, Wimbledon, ND; Scott (Tanja) McMillan, Wimbledon, ND; Marcie Marler, Jamestown, ND; 19 grandchildren; 6 great-grandchildren; 4 siblings: Russell (Ruth) McMillan, Phoenix, AZ; Clara (Ed) Christ, Jamestown, ND; Leonard (Phyllis) McMillan, Naperville, IL; Charlotte (Lanny) Henning, Fargo, ND; and a sister-in-law, Sharon Falk, Leola, SD.
He was preceded in death by his parents, an infant daughter, his mother and father-in law, Ann and Jessie Falk and a brother-in-law, Gordon Falk.
Funeral - 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, May 30, 2006 at St. Boniface Catholic Church, Wimbledon, ND.
Prayer Service - 7:30 p.m. Monday, May 29, 2006 at St. Boniface Catholic Church, Wimbledon, ND
Visitation - 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. Monday, May 29 at Lisko Funeral Chapel, Jamestown, ND and at St. Boniface Catholic Church in Wimbledon for 1 hour prior to the prayer service on Monday evening and 1 hour prior to funeral services on Tuesday morning.
Interment - St. Boniface Cemetery, Wimbledon, ND.
