Life-long Pettibone, ND resident, Hubert Wagner, 71, passed away Saturday, August 13, 2016 at Sanford Medical Center in Bismarck after a year-long illness.
Hubert Earl Wagner was born February 8, 1945 at Jamestown, ND, the oldest child born to Howard and Anna (Morlock) Wagner. He was raised on the family farm northeast of Pettibone. Hubert graduated from Pettibone Public School in 1963. After high school he returned to the farm where he worked alongside his dad in farming and raising cattle. Howard and Hubert would later be joined by Hubert's younger brother Dale in the operation.
Hubert married Joady Lynn Hegg on December 4, 1976 at Northwood, ND. The new couple made their home at the former Tony Hellman farmstead. Hubert and Joady later moved to the Mariner property where they raised their two children, daughter Heidi Ann and son Hoyt Earl. Hubert and Joady were side by side, in work and marriage, for nearly 40 years. Hubert stepped back from farm life in 2014 when his son Hoyt took over.
In addition to farming and ranching, Hubert was also very community-minded. He served on the Gerber Township council, Farmers Union of Pettibone Board of Directors, and was a member of both the Pettibone Volunteer Fire Department and Pettibone Lions Club. Hubert was also a member of Our Savior's Lutheran Church of Pettibone.
Hubert was a social guy who LOVED to visit. He had a great sense of humor, was a fan of telling stories, and if there was a pinochle game nearby, Hubert found it. Hubert was a fan of baseball, especially the Minnesota Twins. In his early years he played softball with various Pettibone teams.
Hubert is survived by his wife Joady of Pettibone; children, Heidi (fiancée Shannon Rosewaren) of Carrington, and Hoyt (wife Cara) of rural Pettibone; siblings, Barbara (Loren) Wentz of Hebron, Janet Jacobson of Bismarck, Dale Wagner of rural Pettibone, and Gail (Warren) Jewett of Jamestown; aunt June Morlock of Jamestown; in-laws Mike and Hazel Hegg of Grand Forks, and brother-in-law Randy (Tati) Hegg of rural Northwood; many cousins, nieces, and nephews.
Hubert was preceded in death by his parents; a brother Donald, who drowned at the age of 14; an infant sister, Mary; and brother-in-law Richard Jacobson.
