Ilo Mostoller, 87, of Jamestown, ND died Sunday, October 3, 2004 at Jamestown Hospital.
Ilo Mostoller was born September 11, 1917 in Afton, Union County, Iowa, the son of Bert and Ada (Longmore) Mostoller. He was baptized in the EUB Church. He received his elementary and high school education in Afton, graduating in 1934. After high school, he spent summers working with an uncle, who was a building contractor, learning the carpenter trade. Ilo attended Itasca Junior College in Minnesota and Simpson College in Iowa. He was certified to teach in the rural one room school of Iowa, but opted to follow the building trades as a carpenter. Ilo married Maxine Hancock at the Methodist church in Coleraine, MN on June 2, 1940. They moved to Vincennes, Indiana to work government jobs in the area and was a member of The Carpenters and Joiners of America. They moved back to Iowa where he worked for Fullerton Lumber Co. in Mason City, Iowa. He was later transferred to Rolfe, Iowa to manage the lumber yard there. For a short time, they lived in Cedar Falls, Iowa working for the Tip-Top Distributing Co. and traveled Eastern Iowa, calling on lumber yards. Ilo was inducted into the US Army at Ft. Snelling, MN. He was transferred to North Post Fort Meyer Virginia to work in the Message Center in the Pentagon as a clerk-typist. After being discharged from the Army in 1946, he moved with his family to Galva, Iowa to manage the Galva Lumber Co. Ilo purchased the Galva Hardware Store and operated that for six years. While in Galva he served on the city council, taught Sunday school, and was the church treasurer. He later worked for Godberson-Smith Lumber Co. in Ida Grove, Iowa. They moved to Jamestown in July 1962 where he managed the Great Plains supply lumber co. for almost 20 years. Ilo took an early retirement and joined the real estate office of the R. E. Meidinger Co. After a stroke in 1999, he fully retired.
He was a member of the First United Methodist Church, Jamestown and served on the Board of Trustees and a past member of the Board of Pensions. He was also a past president of the Salvation Army board. Ilo enjoyed spectator sports of all seasons and especially loved music. He was a member of high school band, Glee clubs, choruses, college choruses, and many church choirs.
Ilo is survived by his wife, Maxine Mostoller of Jamestown, ND; two sons, Glenn (Renee) of Richfield, MN and Gene (DeeDee) of Salem, OR; one daughter, Jody (Gary) Glaser of Prescott, AZ; six grandchildren; and ten great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; one brother; three sisters; and step-father, Elmo Gorman.
Memorial Service: 2:00PM, Thursday October 7, 2004 at the First United Methodist Church, Jamestown with Rev. Dick Boyd officiating.
No visitation scheduled.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to Jamestown Hospital.
