Irene Jakes, 92, Jamestown, North Dakota died Tuesday, January 30, 2007 at Jamestown Hospital, Jamestown.
Irene was born on October 25, 1914, in Valley City, ND, the daughter of Charles and Amy (Lindeberg) Luessen. She grew up and attended school in Valley City, ND until the 4th grade, when the family moved to Fargo, ND. In 1934 she graduated from Courtenay High School, following graduation she attended Business College in Jamestown. She married Elmer M. Jakes on May 16, 1935 in Fargo, ND. They made their home in Jamestown.
Irene was a member of Women of Grace, Altar Guild, Laymen's Club of Grace Episcopal Church, past president of the Lincoln School PTA and past member of the Order of Eastern Star. She enjoyed traveling, reading, playing bridge and spending time with family and friends.
Irene is survived by two daughters, Sandra (Lenard) Cave, Jamestown and Suzanne Steidl, Thief River Falls, MN; five grandchildren; five great-grandchildren and a special cousin, Dale (Virginia) Sorenson, Valley City, ND.
She was preceded in death by her husband and parents.
Memorial Service: 1:30 PM, Thursday, February 1, 2007 at Grace Episcopal Church, Jamestown.
No visitation is scheduled.
Burial: Highland Home Cemtery, Jamestown, North Dakota, in the spring.
