Irene Koehn

Irene Wiese Hendrickson Koehn, was born in Jamestown, North Dakota to Ernest A. and Etta (Brooks) Wiese. She attended country school in Eldridge, ND and finished High School while living with her grandmother Lippert in Jametown. Irene attended college at Valley City and took her first teaching job in Dresden, ND., at the age of 19. She met, and later married Melvin Hendrickson of Adrian, ND in June of 1943. They happily raised their family on the Hendrickson homestead for many years. However, in 1958, Melvin was diagnosed with ALS. Melvin and Irene moved to Billings, MT. Irene finished her four year teaching degree in Billings and taught in the Billings School District for 20 years. She was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church, Billings, MT, St. John's Lutheran Church, Jamestown, ND, and a member of Alpha Delta Kappa sorority for teachers, and a gardening enthusiast.
Irene retired and married August Koehn in 1978, a childhood neighbor and friend from North Dakota. They lived on the Koehn farm until 1982 when they moved into Jamestown. Irene lived at their home in 17th Avenue NE until she decided it was time to enter Ave Maria Village at the age of 90. She peacefully joined her Lord and Savior on Tuesday, March 14, 2017 at Ave Maria Village.
Irene is survived by her sons, Orval (Gidget) Hendrickson of Billings, MT, Arvin (Virginia) Hendrickson, Jamestown, ND, her daughter, Crystal Hendrickson Stanaway (Skip), Portland, Oregon, Twelve grandchildren and Nineteen great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husbands, Melvin Hendrickson and August Koehn, her daughter, Joyce Hendrickson, and her brother Wayne Wiese.
Memorial service in her honor will be held Saturday, March 18, 2017 at 11:00 AM, St. John's Lutheran Church in Jamestown.
Remembrances may be made in her name to Jamestown Hospice or Senior Center for the Meals on Wheels Program.
