Irene Vogel

Irene Agnes Vogel (Guthmiller), 87 of Jamestown, ND went to be with her Heavenly Father while surrounded by her loving family on October 16th, 2021.

Irene was born on March 10th, 1934, in Pettibone, ND and was the oldest daughter of 4 children born to Philip and Pauline (Schick) Guthmiller. She married Arthur Vogel on August 23rd, 1953. They shared 35 years of marriage before Arthur’s passing on December 13th, 1988. Together they raised six beautiful children, Renee, Larry, Shirley, Marleen, Shelly, and Jason.

Her biggest joy in life was spending time with her family. She also enjoyed gardening, baking, cooking, canning, quilting, and crocheting.

After receiving her education from rural Pettibone, she worked as a housekeeper for Dr. Melzer in Woodworth, ND. After marrying Art, they worked together to build a successful family farm. They retired in 1980 and moved to Pettibone where they enjoyed city life and began selling AVON.  Irene continued to live in Pettibone after Art’s passing in 1988. Irene moved to Jamestown in 1994 where she began to provide childcare for family and friends. Not only did she have 13 of her own grandchildren, but she also gained many through her time taking care of others’ children.

She was a beloved Mother, Mother-in-law, Grandmother, Sister, Aunt, and friend who had an unconditional love for all.

She is survived by her six children: Renee (Myron) Schulz, Larry (Linda) Vogel, Shirley Schmitt (Randy Watson), Marleen (Paul) Councilman, Shelly (Chris) Speelmon, and Jason (Christy) Vogel. Grandchildren: Crystal, Jennifer, Rachel, Landon, Lance, Lindsey, Trevor, Travis, Mandi, Chase, McKenna, Kyra, Hunter, and 16 Great-Grandchildren. Siblings: Violia Hartzell, Donald (Delilah) Guthmiller, and Esther Koenig. Along with many nieces and nephews.

She was proceeded in death by her husband, Art; Parents, Philip and Pauline Guthmiller; Mother-in-law: Katherine Vogel; Brothers and Sister In-laws, Reinhart Vogel, Amanda Vogel, Jacob Vogel, and Jenner Koenig.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given too Jamestown Hospice, Concordia Lutheran Church, and Eventide Nursing Home.

Funeral Service – 10:30 a.m., Wednesday, October 20, 2021 at Concordia Lutheran Church, Jamestown with Rev. Tom Eckstein officiating.

Visitation – 1:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m., Tuesday, October 19, 2021 at Eddy Funeral Home, Jamestown.

Prayer Service - 7:00 p.m., Tuesday, October 19, 2021 at Eddy Funeral Home.

Burial – Highland Home Cemetery, Jamestown.
