Our beloved mother, Irma Violet King Wiese, passed away November 19, 2011 at Jamestown Regional Medical Center, one month after her 91st birthday.
Irma was born October 19, 1920 on a farm near Cuba, ND, the youngest of five children born to Carl and Bessie (Adcock) King. She grew up on the farm and in Valley City graduating from Valley City High School. She then attended Interstate Business College in Fargo, ND, where she learned secretarial and business skills. She married Allen Wiese December 25, 1943 in Valley City and they made their home in Jamestown.
Irma was a devoted wife and mother, returning to work when the youngest of their four daughters started school in 1963. She worked in the Medical Records Department of the ND State Hospital until retiring in 1980. Upon retirement, Irma and Allen enjoyed travels to such places as Australia, the Caribbean Sea, Mexico, both coasts of the United States and numerous trips to Alaska.
Irma was well-known for her special touch in roasting the numerous ducks and geese Allen brought home over the years as well as canning hundreds of quarts of tomatoes, beets, pickles, green beans and applesauce from their garden. She enjoyed going to concerts and plays as well as swimming at the \""Y\"" for many years. Irma looked forward to seeing her friends at the monthly Widow's Luncheon and couldn't leave her favorite place to eat, Perkins, without having a piece of pie.
Displaying her independent spirit, Irma lived on her own after Allen's passing on May 11, 1998 until two years ago when she became a resident of the Heritage Centre. She entered Ave Maria Village in August. She was a long-time member of the First Congregational United Church of Christ, where she enjoyed teaching Sunday School for many years.
Surviving Irma are her daughters, Pamela (Rodney) Femrite, Ocean Isle Beach, NC, Elizabeth (John) Grunewalder, Greensboro, NC, Joan (Jon) Slusser, Jamestown and Connie (Clemens) Clooten, Fairbanks, AK. She is also survived by her grandchildren, Darin (Anne) Femrite, Kristin (Chris) Malone, Andrew (Amy) Brower, Sara (Keith) Mitchell, Lucas Clooten, Chad (Casey) Femrite, Nate Clooten, Ben (Tanya) Clooten, Andrea Slusser, Alana Clooten, Kayla Slusser, Jordan Slusser and Justin Slusser; and great-grandchildren, Jake and Jenna Brower, Kira and Caleb Malone, Luz Femrite, Tyler Clooten, Urijah Fritz and Audrey Mitchell; and sister-in-law, Barbara Wiese, Ashtabula, OH.
