Ivan Carlson, 86, Jamestown, North Dakota died Tuesday, March 30, 2004 at Central Dakota Village, Jamestown.

Ivan Theodore Carlson was born October 3, 1917 in Homer Township, Stutsman County, ND the oldest son of Theodore ""Ted"" and Mathilda (Daede) Carlson. He lived through the times when the country and everyone else was going through hard times. He grew up and attended school in Homer Township. Ivan married Ann Bertha Hinz on October 4, 1942 in Perham, Minnesota. He farmed with his father on the family farm for a few years until they bought their own farm. Ivan's love for the land and the soil kept him in farming despite many hard times when it would have been easy to ""throw in the towel"". Ivan's wife, Ann, of 43 years passed away on August 26, 1985. After several years of being alone, Ivan found another companion to share the rest of his life with, Delores Mickelson Rasmussen. They were married October 26, 1996 at the little country church in Montpelier, ND.

Besides farming and being a great father, Ivan served on many boards including: Township Board-41 years; First Community Credit Union-14 years; Farmers Union Oil-15 years; Elevator Board-15 years; Shipping Association-12 years; School Board-3 years; District Precinct Committeeman-20 years; Stutsman County Weed Board-7 years; Stutsman County Museum-3 years; Stutsman County HeritageAssociation-3 years; Stutsman County Old Settler's-1 year and the Election Board-52 years. Ivan never was one to sit around and not do something.

He enjoyed playing cards, traveling, especially short day trips, and visiting with family and friends.

Ivan is survived by his wife, Delores, Jamestown, four children, Richard (Lori) Carlson, Jamestown; Lorraine (Lee) Wahlund, Carrington, ND; Russell Carlson, Jamestown and Bernice (Roger) Anderson, Drayton, ND, five grandchildren, Darcie (Dave) Kristjanson, Kristin (Steve) Pagel, Sevrin Anderson, Stacey Anderson and Derek Carlson, two great-grandchildren, Hailey and Nicholas Kristjanson, two step-children, Dean (Nancy) Rasmussen, Juneau, Alaska and Debbie (Francis) Heery, Eckelson, ND, one step-grandson, Aaron Heery and one brother, Ervin Carlson, Jamestown.

He was preceded in death by his parents, his first wife, Ann, two brothers, Alfred and one in infancy and one sister, Muriel Gasal.

Funeral Service: 11:00 AM, Saturday, April 3, 2004 at St. John's Lutheran Church, Jamestown with Rev. Dennis Ellingsen officiating.

Visitation: 9:00 AM to 9:00 PM, Friday, April 2, 2004 at the Eddy Funeral Home.

Prayer Service: 7:00 PM, Friday, April 2, 2004 at the Eddy Funeral Chapel.

Burial: Sunset Memorial Gardens, Jamestown, North Dakota at a later date.
