Jack Miller

Jack W. Miller, 62, Jamestown, North Dakota, died Sunday, January 29, 2006 at Jamestown Hospital.

Jack was born June 18, 1943 in Woodworth, North Dakota, the son of Jack and Orla Miller. Jack grew up in Pingree and graduated from Pingree High School. Jack began working at the Jamestown Police Department as a patrolman in 1971 and moved over to the Stutsman County Sheriff's Department in 1975. At the Sheriff's Department he worked his way up the ranks to Chief Deputy. In 1986, Jack agreed to serve as the first administrator of the Stutsman County Joint Law Enforcement Center. He returned to the Sheriff's Department in 1989. In 2001, Jack was elected to the Stutsman County Commission. Jack had been diagnosed with Parkinson's disease in 1992 and in 2003 underwent surgery to correct the worsening symptoms of the disease. Due to unexpected complications during the surgery, Jack was forced to retire in 2003. Jack received several law enforcement awards and commendations and introduced several drug awareness programs including Counteract to Stutsman County. Jack was also a member of Gideon's International and was involved in several ministries in the area.

He is survived by wife, Sherry (Cebula), Sons, Jason (Nairobi, Kenya) and John (Brainerd, Minnesota), Brother Doug (Church Road, Virginia-wife, Judy), Sisters, Violet Swanson (Kalamazoo, Michigan-husband, Ken) and Val Pardee (Parchment, Michigan-husband, Doug).

Funeral Service: 2:00 PM, Thursday, February 2, 2006 at the Jamestown Civic Center with Rev. Richard Reynolds and Greg Allen officiating.

Visitation: 9:00 AM to 8:00 PM, Tuesday, January 31, 2006 and 9:00 AM to 5:00 PM, Wednesday, February 1, 2006 at the Eddy Funeral Home, Jamestown.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations to James River Family YMCA Strong Kids Program or Youth for Christ, Jamestown.
