Jacob Remmick

November 8, 1916 — July 30, 2008

Jacob Remmick, age 91, passed away peacefully, Wednesday, July 30, 2008, with the presence of his niece, Janet Wanzek, at Hi-Acres Manor Nursing Home, Jamestown, ND.

Jacob was born November 8, 1916 in Streeter, North Dakota, to Jacob and Paulina (Pfaff) Remmick.

Jacob grew up in Streeter, ND, as a young boy and farmed on the family farm.

During World War II, Jacob worked with the police force in Mandan, North Dakota.

In 1951, Jacob was a chef for the Dakota Café, Medina, ND, which was owned and operated by his sister, Lydia, until it was sold.

In 1970, Jacob became the chef for the Wagon Wheel Restaurant, Jamestown, until Jake retired.

Upon his retirement, Jacob spent much time with his niece, Janet Wanzek, and her husband, Leo. Janet remembers cooking oatmeal for Jake every morning at 7:00 AM sharp, while Jake was staying with her.

Jacob was always full of life and happy. He always welcomed visitors, especially his niece, Janet, and her late husband, Leo Wanzek.

Jake's great-nieces, Juliet and Jantze Wanzek, remember him as the best babysitter when they were young. He would play the piano and ""yodel"" for them. Jake loved when they would come to visit at Hi-Acres Manor. The ""girls"" would play the piano for him and Jake could still ""yodel"". We were so fortunate to have a great uncle as special as Jake and for so long. Jake has taught us a lot about life and what really matters. For this, we are grateful for our Uncle Jake.

Jake will be missed by all of us. May he rest in peace.

Jake is survived by his niece, Janet Wanzek, Fargo, ND. He was preceded in death by his parents, brothers and sisters, Martha and Lydia.

Visitation: 1:00 to 8:00 PM, Friday, August 1, 2008 at the Eddy Funeral Home.
