Edward James "Jim" Altringer, 80, of Jamestown, ND, died Friday, May 20, 2011 at Eventide at Hi-Acres, Jamestown.
Jim was born May 1, 1931, the son of Edward and Margaret (Gruchalla) Altringer. He graduated from Eckelson Public School and served in the US Marines. In 1954, Jim married Grace Kalisch. During his career Jim did some farming, but most of those years he was self-employed in advertising sales.
Jim was a member of St. James Basilica, Knights of Columbus, Elks, and the Sanborn American Legion.
Jim is survived by his wife, Grace Altringer, Jamestown; two daughters, Renee Darby, Bloomington, MN and Linda (John) McKean, Bellbrook, OH; two brothers, Pat (Beverly) Altringer, Dickinson, ND and Tom Altringer, Norfolk, VA; one sister, Lois (Darrel) Bjornson, Eckelson, ND; one half sister, LaVonne Montgomery, Grand Forks, ND; one grandson, Leon (Stacy) Darby, Jamestown; three great grandsons, Dwight, Dalton, and Gavin Darby; and one step granddaughter, Jessica McKean, Bellbrook, OH.
He was preceded in death by his parents and a grandson, Brian Darby.
Eucharist of Christian Burial: 10:30 a.m, Monday, May 23, 2011 at St. James Basilica, Jamestown.
Visitation: 4:00 p.m. to 6:30 p.m., Sunday, May 22, 2011 at Williams-Lisko Funeral Chapel, Jamestown.
Vigil: 7:00 p.m., Sunday, May 22, 2011 at Williams-Lisko Funeral Chapel with a Knights of Columbus Rosary beginning at 6:30 p.m.
In lieu of flowers, memorial may be sent to a hospice program or the James River Humane Society.
