James A. Carlascio

James Anthony Carlascio, 88, died Thursday, July 11, 2013 at Jamestown Regional Medical Center, Jamestown.

James Anthony Carlascio was born March 10, 1925 to Joseph and Julia (Wall) Carlascio in Jamestown, North Dakota. He attended St. Johns Academy in Jamestown. Jim entered the military service in 1943, served as First Scout for the 3rd Army Division in Germany. He was wounded and captured in Italy. He spent two years as a prisoner of war in Germany. Jim was awarded the Purple Heart. He hired out on the Northern Pacific Railroad as a brakeman, soon he was promoted to conductor. He worked passenger service in the early years, retired from Burlington Northern Railroad in 1993 after 49 years of service. On November 30, 1951 he married Dorothy Rosemore in Jamestown. He was a member of the Elks, VFW, DAV & Amvets. His commitments to his community and country were recognized, National Elks Veteran 1993, Jamestown Outstanding Citizen 2008, North Dakota Hometown Hero Award 2009 and United Transportation Union 2013 volunteer of the year. Jim enjoyed watching boxing, gardening and spending time with his grandchildren.

He is survived by his wife, Dorothy; daughters, Pam & Kathleen; sons, Jim Jr. & Mark (Christine); grandchildren, Krystal, Jace, Grant, Tessa and Isabella; sister, Mary (Carlascio) Fusco.

He was preceded in death by his parents, sisters, Josephine, Laverne, Annette, Anntinette, Victoria, brothers, Tony and Joey.
