James Carter, Sr., 78, Jamestown, North Dakota died Sunday, November 14, 2004 at Hi-Acres Manor Nursing Home, Jamestown.
James was born July 18, 1926 in Waucoma, Iowa, the son of Ray and Nellie (Schook) Carter. He grew up and was educated in Carrington, North Dakota. Jim entered the US Army on March 20, 1945 in Ft. Snelling, MN and served during WW II in the Asiatic Pacific Theater until his discharge on December 20, 1946. Jim married Dorothy Kunze August 15, 1952 in Jamestown. He joined the US Air Force on February 5, 1952 and served in the Korean conflict. He was discharged on September 15, 1953. He made his home in Jamestown where he worked as a bartender and gas station attendant. Dorothy died December 23, 1997.
He enjoyed fishing and riding his motorcycle.
Jim is survived by his eight children, James, Jr., Jeff, Jay, Jared, Janice and Jeannie Carter (Ray Hillius), all of Jamestown, Judi (Kenny) Bakke, Brandon, SD and Joyce Carter of Anoka, MN, 15 grandchildren, 7 great-grandchildren and one sister, Violet Buchlie, Bismarck, ND.
He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Dorothy; a son, Jerry; four brothers; one sister and a niece, Sharon Hulm.
Funeral Service: 11:00 AM, Friday, November 19, 2004 at the Eddy Funeral Chapel with Rev. Bryce Tahran officiating.
Visitation: 9:00 AM to 8:00 PM, Thursday, November 18, 2004 at the Eddy Funeral Home.
Burial: Highland Home Cemetery, Jamestown, North Dakota.
