James Leon Corser

James Leon Corser, 83, Jamestown, North Dakota, died Wednesday, November 14, 2007 at Central Dakota Village in Jamestown.

Jim was born January 27, 1924 in Fargo, North Dakota, the son of Franklin L. and Eleanore M. (Larson) Corser. He attended school in Flaxton, ND and Athol, MA. Jim went to college at NDSU at Bottineau and Minot State Teachers College. Jim enlisted in the US Navy on September 23, 1941 and served four years in the Pacific on the battleship USS New Mexico. He also served six years on ships in the Amphibios Assult Forces in the Atlantic and Mediterranean Seas during the Korean War. Jim was a member of the Air Force Reserve, Air National Guard, 119th Fighter Group, Fargo, ND from 1961 to 1984, retiring with 32 years of service with the rank of Master Sergeant.

Jim moved to Jamestown in 1961 from Devils Lake, ND. He was manager of the Sears Store in Devils Lake and Jamestown. He held various positions with the ND Credit Union League in Jamestown as a Field Coordinator and Director of Field Services from 1965 to 1973. He was employed as a Field Coordinator and Director of Field Services for the American Heart Association, Dakota Affiliate in Jamestown from 1973 to 1980, retiring in May of 1980.

Jim was a lifetime member of the American Legion Ernest D. Robertson Post #14 and the Veterans of Foreign Wars, Post 760, both of Jamestown, the Fraternal Order of the Eagles, Air Force Sergeants Association, the USS New Mexico (BB40) Association and the United Presbyterian Church, Jamestown.

He enjoyed walking and reading.

Jim is survived by many friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

Funeral Service: 10:00 AM, Saturday, November 17, 2007 at the Eddy Funeral Chapel, Jamestown with Pastor David Thompson officiating.

Visitation: One hour before the service at the funeral home.

Burial: Highland Home Cemetery, Jamestown, North Dakota.
