James Miller

James J. Miller, 84, Jamestown, North Dakota died Friday, September 17, 2010 at his home. James J. \""Jim\"" Miller was born on June 5, 1926 in Grand Forks, North Dakota to Clifford and Emma (Schauer) Miller. He resided in Grand Forks until he enlisted in the Navy at the age of 18, serving on the U.S.S. Clay in the South Pacific during World War II. After the war he returned to Grand Forks and attended UND. On June 12, 1949 he married Jeanne Stenson and in 1950 he graduated from UND. Jim was employed by Standard Oil of Indiana as a district representative for 30 years. In 1980, after retiring from Standard Oil, Jim and his wife Jean owned and operated the Orange Julius franchise in the Buffalo Mall until 2002. During this time Jim also worked as a consultant for the Dan Dugan Transport Company as well as Border States Paving Inc. Jim was a loyal Twins and Vikings fan. He enjoyed spending time with friends each morning having coffee at a local restaurant, and he always looked forward to family get togethers. He was an El Riad Shriner in South Dakota, and a member of the Elks, Eagles and DAV. He is survived by his wife, Jeanne, Jamestown, ND; one son, Jeffrey, Omaha, NE; four daughters, Pamela (Chris) Bates, Honolulu, HI, Rebecca Steckler, Jamestown, ND, Melissa (Keith) Radke, Fargo, ND and Amy McGregor, Minneapolis, MN; eight grandchildren and three great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, one brother, Duane \""Red\"" and two sisters, Joyce and Jackie.
