James D. "Tex" Tally, 92, of Jamestown, ND, died Friday, December 10, 2010 at Eventide at Hi-Acres Manor, Jamestown.
James Doyal Tally was born November 24, 1918, at Buffalo Gap, Texas, the son of Acney Ballard and Maude (Sprouls) Tally. He was educated in Buffalo Gap and served in the US Navy during World War II. James served from 1942 until 1945 in Alaska and the Pacific at Okinawa.
James married Vera Joos on August 7, 1946 at Buffalo Gap, TX. They made their home in Jamestown where he began serving with the Jamestown Police Dept. in 1951. James became Police Chief in 1964 and retired in 1977. He enjoyed playing golf as a past time.
James is survived by his two sons, Dan Tally, Jamestown, and Scott Tally, Fargo, ND; three grandchildren, Bryna Tally, Minneapolis, MN, Kate (Serghei) Tally-Moroz, Jamestown, ND, and Alex Tally, Torrance, CA; and one brother, Olan Tally, Abilene, TX.
He was preceded in death by his parents; wife; one sister, Ima; and four brothers, Noma, Jake, Cline, and Dewey.
Memorial Service: 2:00 p.m., Friday, December 17, 2010 at Lisko Funeral Chapel, Jamestown.
No Visitation scheduled.
Interment: Highland Home cemetery, Jamestown.
Memorials: May be sent to Jamestown Hospital Hospice.
