James (Jim) Traiser, 87, passed away peacefully at Ave Maria Village on October 7, 2016. Jim was born on June 5, 1929 in Wolford, North Dakota to Vada (Lockwood) and Joseph Traiser. He attended schools in Drake and Jamestown, North Dakota. On January 1, 1951, he married Luella Jean Ostrom, and they made their home in Jamestown until the time of his death.
Jim was a master electrician and worked in the family business, Traiser Electric. He was also a founding partner of Park View Manor, Inc., a housing developer which constructed elderly housing units in several locations in North and South Dakota.
After retiring in 1981, Jim and Lu enjoyed winters in Sun City, Arizona.
Jim served in the ND Army National Guard and was a volunteer fireman in Jamestown for twenty years. Jim was a member of First Baptist Church, Elks, American Legion, and Rotary. He truly enjoyed music which can be traced back to his days as a drummer in a local band called The Four Aces. Jim enjoyed hunting, fishing, golf, and working with stained glass.
Jim is survived by his wife; a son, Joel Traiser, Jamestown; a daughter, Luann (Rod) Torkelson, Surprise, Arizona; three grandchildren, three great-grandchildren; a brother, Robert, and sister, Betty Jo (Bob) Davis.
He was preceded in death by his parents, and a sister, LaVonne (Elder) Scherbenske.
In lieu of flowers the family requests memorials be sent to any of the following: James & Luella Traiser Scholarship at University of Jamestown, Ave Maria Village, JRMC Hospice, or Neuropathy Association (neuropathy.org).
Funeral service: 10:30 AM, Saturday, October 15, 2016 at Good Shepherd Chapel, Ave Maria Village Nursing Home, Jamestown, ND with Pastor Bryce Tahran, officiating.
Visitation: 4:00 PM to 7:30 PM, Friday, October 14 at Eddy Funeral Chapel.
Prayer Service: 7:30 PM, Friday, October 14 at Eddy Funeral Chapel.
Burial: Highland Home Cemetery.
