James Vagneur

June 4, 1917 — April 14, 2003

Dr. James Vagneur, 85 of Jamestown died Monday, April 14, 2003 at Abbott-Northwestern Hospital in Minneapolis, Minnesota. Jim was born July 4, 1917 in Aspen, Colorado the son of Louis and Mary (McMurdo) Vagneur. He attended veterinary school at Colorado State and graduated with his veterinary degree in 1941. Jim married Marjorie Qual on Thanksgiving Day 1943 in Lisbon. He then pursued his Masters degree in Public Health at the University of Michigan from 1946-1948. They moved to Jamestown in 1952. Dr. Vagneur co-founded the Southwood Veterinary Clinic with Dr. Bieri in 1961 and practiced veterinary medicine until his retirement in 1997. He was honored as Veterinarian of the Year in 1980. Jim enjoyed gardening and yard work and his home was featured on the AAUW Garden Tour.

Dr. Vagneur was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church, Stockmen's Association, AVMA, NDVMA, Livestock Sanitary Board, Sons of Norway, Dance Club, Jamestown Elks, Shriner's, Lion's Club and Retired Teachers all of Jamestown. He served as President of the NDVMA and was a delegate to the AVMA National Convention. He also was a member of the Health Occupations Committee at the Vocational Center.

He is survived by his wife, 2 sons, David, Minneapolis and Jim (Connie), Jamestown and one daughter, Coralyn (Doug) Armstrong, Tacoma, WA, three grandchildren, Michelle, Ryan and Jon, special family members Scott Remmel and Sheila McIlonie.

He was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers, George and Allen.

Funeral Service: 2:30 PM, Friday, April 18, 2003 at Trinity Lutheran Church, Jamestown with Rev. Terry Anderson officiating.

Visitation: 1:00 to 9:00 PM, Thursday, April 17, 2003 at Eddy Funeral Home.

Burial: 11:00 AM, Saturday, April 19, 2003 at Oakwood Cemetery, Lisbon, North Dakota.
