Janice Fietzek

Janice J. (Johnston) Fietzek, Jamestown, ND passed away suddenly at her home on Wednesday, June 30, 2021.

Janice was born February 28, (not a leap year) to Floyd and Ada (Fode) Johnston.  They were expecting a winter storm so Grandpa Johnston took Grandma into Gackle.  After being snowbound for two weeks, mom got her first train ride on the “Galloping Goose” from Gackle to Alfred where Grandpa then had to pick them up with a horse drawn sleigh to take them back to the family farm.

If you noticed mom’s age and birth year are not given.  Those who knew mom, knew she did not like giving out her age and she made it very clear she did not want them in her obituary.

She attended several country schools and graduated from Jud High School after the family moved to Jud.  Janice married Ron J. Fietzek in 1956 at the Millarton Lutheran Church.  They moved to Seattle, WA then back to Sidney and New Rockford before purchasing the farm SW of Millarton in 1963.  Mom worked alongside Dad with the spraying business and farm. She raised three hawnyawkers and used to say “What one didn’t think of, the other did”.

Janice received her teacher’s aide certificate in Grand Forks and worked a number of years at Montpelier School.  After moving to Jamestown, she worked at the North Dakota State Hospital for 10 years and worked several part-time jobs.  Even after retirement she worked as an usher at the “Ralph”.  She liked to keep busy.

Mom enjoyed spending time with family, reading, baking, canning and fishing with her nephew Henry and her late sister June.  Mom’s homemade buns, kuchen, dill pickles and apple pies are notorious among family and friends.  She was an avid Viking's fan (win or lose), Fighting Sioux Men’s Hockey and Blue Jays Boys Soccer fan.

She is preceded in death by her parents, Ron, son Jeff, two brothers and one sister.

Janice is loved and will be missed by her family; daughter, Rhonda DeVries, Jamestown, ND, grandchildren Jessica (Ryan) Skjeret, great grandson Gavin, Jamestown, ND, and grandson Logan Barnett, Minneapolis, MN; daughter Brenda (Tom) Hudinsky, Rockford, MN, grandchildren Chris Kleinjan, Buffalo, MN, Cassandra (Matt) Pooler, great grandchildren Watson and Nora, Elk River, MN, Amanda (Fiance Peter) Hudinsky, Rockford, MN and Jacob (Laura) Hudinsky, Burnsville, MN, Jeff’s son's Tyler, great grandchildren Layla & Jade Fietzek and Janson Fietzek, West Fargo, ND.

A memorial service will be 11:00 AM, Monday, July 5, 2021 at Eddy Funeral Home with Pastor Bryce Tahran officiating.  Interment will be in Sunset Memorial Gardens.
