Jasper Brown

Jasper E. Brown, 91, Jamestown, North Dakota, died Monday, July 7, 2008 at his son's home in Mandan, ND.

Jasper ""Jap"" was born September 4, 1916 at the family home near Heaton, ND, he was the son of George and Emma (Pickert) Brown. He graduated from Heaton High School. Jap joined The Civilian Conservation Corp. after high school, working in Northern Minnesota, upon returning he ran the local pool hall in Heaton. Jasper married Catherine Tolbert on July 23, 1940 in Winnipeg, Man., Canada. Together they owned and operated a grocery store in Heaton for 26 years. In 1957 they had their only son, Joel. In 1967 the family moved to Jamestown where Jap worked at the Jamestown Grocery until his retirement. Catherine passed away December 23, 1973.

Jasper had a passion for fishing, he enjoyed traveling, hunting, and dearly loved spending time with his family and friends. He was a dedicated volunteer at the Senior Center and his church, serving in numerous capacities.

Grateful to have shared his life are his survivors, son, Joel (Susan) Brown, Mandan, ND; three grandchildren, Nate (Jodi) Brown, Savage, MN, Penny Brown, Fergus Falls, MN and Travis Brown, Grand Forks, ND; two great-grandchildren, Maisie Brown, Fergus Falls, MN and Madden Brown, Savage, MN; along with numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. He shared the past 33 years with special friend, Marge Limesand, and her family.

He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Catherine; brothers, James ""Jim"", Harry ""Bus"", Charles ""Pete"" and George ""Muggs""; and sisters, Marion and Evelyn.

Visitation: 1:00 to 7:00 PM, Thursday, July 10, 2008 at the Eddy Funeral Home in Jamestown.

Celebration of life service: 7:00 PM, Thursday, July 10, 2008 at the Eddy Funeral Chapel, Jamestown, ND.

Funeral Service: 10:30 AM, Friday, July 11, 2008 at the First Congregational United Church of Christ, Jamestown, with Pastor Susan Lester.

Burial: Heaton Cemetery, Heaton, North Dakota.
