Jean Lois Stelter

Jean Stelter, 90, Jamestown, North Dakota died Wednesday, July 8, 2009 at Hi-Acres Manor Nursing Center in Jamestown, after experiencing a stroke at her home on July 4.

Jean Lois Campbell was born May 8, 1919 in Lisbon, North Dakota, the daughter of Robert and Laura (Kruger) Campbell. She graduated from Lisbon High School in 1938. Jean attended Trinity Hospital School of Nursing in Jamestown, where she obtained an Associates Degree in Nursing in 1941. She worked at Jamestown Hospital until 1944 when, she became an Ensign in the the United States Navy and served until March 1946. She returned to Jamestown and continued to work at Jamestown Hospital. On January 3, 1947 Jean married Earl Stelter and began raising her family. In 1963, Jean returned to work at the North Dakota State Hospital until 1974. Jean began working at Hi-Acres Manor Nursing Center in 1976 and retired in 1980.

Jean was a dedicated nurse and was especially proud of her grandchildren. She loved her flowers and birds and up to the end was fiercely independent. She enjoyed taking her motorized scooter for trips on the walking trail around the Jamestown Reservior.

Jean is survived by her children, Marie Stelter, Jamestown, Robert (Donna) Stelter, Glenwood, MN, Richard Stelter, Hawaii, Kathryn (James) Ekren, West Fargo, ND and Faye (John) Weir, Minneapolis, MN; and four grandchildren, Dustin Weir (fiancee, Alexandra Snow), Elise Weir, Brenton Ekren (fiancee, Elizabeth Moore) and Sean Stelter.

She was preceded in death by her husband; two sons, Donald and Ronald; three brothers and one sister.

Funeral Service: 2:00 PM, Sunday, July 12, 2009 at the Eddy Funeral Chapel, Jamestown, with Pastor David Thompson officiating.

Visitation: 5:00 to 8:00 PM, Saturday, July 11, 2009 at the Eddy Funeral Home.

Burial: Highland Home Cemetery, Jamestown, North Dakota
