Jerome Andrew Neuman (Jerry) was born in Litchfield, Minnesota on November 7, 1927 to Louis F. and Ella (Thompson) Neuman. Jerry died at his home in Jamestown, ND on June 26, 2004.
Jerry graduated from Litchfield High School. He enlisted in the army in 1945 in the surgical technician program which terminated on V-J Day. He then enrolled in the University of Minnesota and married his childhood sweetheart, Jean Stoetzel, on September 15, 1948. While at the University he participated in ROTC and graduated with a degree in history. He began working for the J. C. Penney company in Brainerd, Minnesota in 1950, and was called to active duty in 1951, serving in Korea. He resumed his Penney career in 1953 working for the Penney company in several different Midwest states and positions, including regional catalog manager, finishing his career in Jamestown, ND, in 1988, retiring after 36 years.
Throughout his life Jerry has been active in many organizations: Delta Tau Delta, the Rotary Club, Jamestown Area Chamber of Commerce, Jaycees, VFW and American Legion, the Shriners, and the Elks. He also served on the Civic Center Commission as well as on the Library Board. He was a member of First United Methodist Church where he found great enjoyment participating in his Sunday school class.
Jerry was a master storyteller, a man who genuinely liked all people, loved to share information, and enjoyed telling all kinds of jokes. He delighted in hearing people laugh, learning new things and relished humor of all kinds. He loved hunting, fishing, golf, and trap shooting and was an avid reader with special interests in history and recipes. Traveling and sharing his life with others was another special joy. He combined these two loves by celebrating his fiftieth wedding anniversary by taking his wife and three daughters on a trip to the Civil War battlefields. He loved chatting with anyone and everyone, but especially cherished the time with his morning and afternoon coffee buddies.
Jerry is survived by his wife of 56 years, Jean and his daughters Beth Neuman (Devils Lake) and Polly Neuman (Steve) Cebula (Rugby), his sister, JoAnn L. Neuman (Brooklyn Center, MN) and grandchildren, Josh and Michelle Holmes, Rachel and Cassandra Cebula, and son-in-law, Anthony Holmes (Sally Fuller).
Jerry was preceded in death by his parents and his daughter, Kristin Neuman Holmes.
