Jessie Mitchell, 99, Carrington, North Dakota, formerly of Jamestown, ND, died Sunday, May 17, 2009 at Carrington Health Center, Carrington.
Jessie Florence Hoyt was born November 11, 1909, at McHenry, ND, the daughter of Abner and Nellie (Johnson) Hoyt. The family moved to Braddock, Sask., Canada in 1917 where she received her education to eighth grade. In 1925 they returned to McHenry. The family moved to Courtenay, ND in 1926. She married Bryan Mitchell. They farmed in Courtenay until retiring in 1968. They spent 13 winters in Arizona and also made a home in Jamestown. Bryan died December 8, 1986. Jessie entered Rock of Ages in Jamestown in October 1999 and Golden Acres Manor in Carrington in August 2006. Jessie was a homemaker who enjoyed sewing, gardening, playing a good game of Pinochle and making many fancy quilts. A special one was presented to the Courtenay Centennial in 1987.
Jessie is survived by a son, Douglas (Adeline) Mitchell, Jamestown; nine grandchildren; sixteen great-grandchildren; one son-in-law, William Monson, Minnesota; one daughter-in-law, Judith Mitchell, Courtenay, ND;
She was preceded in death by her husband; parents; daughter, Anita Monson; son, Abner Mitchell; one sister, Elizabeth; and five brothers, Abner, John, Glen, Lyle, and George.
Funeral Service: 3:00 PM, Wednesday, May 20, 2009 at the Eddy Funeral Chapel, Jamestown, with Pastor Bryce Tahran officiating.
Visitation: 10:00 AM to 3:00 PM, Wednesday, May 19, 2009 at the Eddy Funeral Home.
Burial: Sunset Memorial Gardens, Jamestown, North Dakota
