Joan Weatherly

July 12, 1938 — April 20, 2006

JoAn Weatherly, 67, passed away April 20, 2006 after a courageous battle against cancer in the MedCenter One Hospital in Bismarck, North Dakota.

A celebration of her life is planned: beginning with visitation from 1:00 to 8:00 PM, Sunday, April 23, 2006 at Eddy Funeral Home, Jamestown; a prayer service at Eddy Funeral Chapel at 7:00 PM on Sunday and the funeral service at First Congregational United Church of Christ, Jamestown at 10:00 AM, Monday, April 24, 2006 and burial following at Sunset Memorial Gardens in Jamestown, North Dakota.

JoAn was born July 12, 1938 to Harold and Pearl (Seckerson) Kurtz. She graduated from Jamestown High School in 1956. She married Merle Weatherly a day after her 20th birthday, July 13, 1958. They had four children. She loved her kids dearly and lived for her family. She cherished the times she spent with her children, as well as grandchildren.

She worked full-time for several insurance companies as a secretary and later as an insurance agent in Jamestown, ND. Her career began with Bagan Insurance, Newberry Insurance, Ring Insurance, Mooney Insurance, Moran Insurance, and then Heritage Insurance. In her retirement she worked part-time happily for Harty Insurance.

Some of the joys of JoAn's life would be going out to eat with family and friends, playing solitaire, putting puzzles together, shopping, bird watching, crafts, bookkeeping, collecting Humpty Dumpty's, teapots, miniature tea sets, and water pitchers. She was a member of the First Congregational Church serving as a Sunday School and Bible School teacher, Superintendent of Sunday School and served on various church boards. She was also a member of the Red Hat Society and the Old Crows Hobby Club. She always had a list of things to do, as she was very well organized and loved planning family get-togethers, as well as class reunions. She had a smile on her face and a wink in her eye for just about everyone. Her sense of humor was contagious. She was a gem, one of a kind and precious. She will be greatly missed.

JoAn will be lovingly remembered by her husband; sons and daughter-in-laws, Brent (Patty) from Glen Ullin, ND; and Troy (Christy) from Jacksonville, FL; one daughter and son-in-law, Myla (Lance) Wescom from Bismarck, ND; ten grandchildren, Kayla (Strong), Matthew (Miller), Blaine, Emily, Bridget, Brady; Brianna, Isabella; Tayler (Wescom) and KayDee (Wescom).
