Joann Martin

Joann Martin, 79, formerly of Robinson, ND passed away at Ave Maria Village in Jamestown on July 4, 2015.
Joann Audrey Nelson was born on January 8, 1936 to Art and Alice (Madson) Nelson. She attended school in Robinson, graduating from high school in 1953. She attended Valley City Teacher's College and taught for one year at the country grade school in Lake Williams Township.
Joann married Edward Martin on April 11, 1954 at Bethany Lutheran Church in Robinson. They resided in Lake Williams for several years until they began farming and ranching on the Martin Family farm near Lake Williams in 1967. They lived there until Ed passed away in September of 2010. Because of poor health, Joann resided at Ave Maria Village since October 2010. Joann served as postmaster replacement in Lake Williams and then later in the Robinson Post Office for several years. She enjoyed cooking and lent her talents to the Robinson and Pettibone Cafes through the years. Her homemade buns and knoephla soup were always special treats to her children and grandchildren. She enjoyed crocheting and sewing and shared many of her crocheted items and quilts with family and friends.
Joann will be deeply missed by her family. She especially loved to spend time with her grandkids. She was the grandma every grandchild wanted to stay with-not only for her great cooking, but also for her loving kindness and her gentle and soft-spoken ways. Even her great-grandchildren got to know and love her as "Gramma Jo", even though she was too ill to spend the time she would have liked with them.
She is survived by her 4 children; Charlene (Eugene) Guthmiller, Pettibone, Ron Martin, Steele, Marlene (Dan) Wolf, Carrington, Neal Martin, Pettibone; eight grandchildren-Janell Lynne, Jeremy Guthmiller, Jenni Yoder, Landyn (Tara) Wolf, Jordan (Kelsey) Wolf, Braden (Sarah) Martin, Jayden Guthmiller and Shalee Martin; six great-grandchildren, Isabella, Brynlee, Hayden, Jensyn, Greysonn & Hadley; sisters-in-law, Anna Woodward, Alvina Schulz, Louise (Pete) Roerick, Jamestown & Gladys Martin, Lincoln. She was preceded in death by her parents, loving husband, Edward, special daughter-in-law, JoAnn Martin and brother Lester Nelson.
Her family wishes to thank the staff at Ave Maria Village for giving her such loving and tender care over her last years. She grew to love and think of them all as her extended family.

Funeral Service: 10:30 AM, Thursday, July 9 at Good Shepherd Chapel, Ave Maria Village, Jamestown with Deacon Tom Geffre, officiating.
Visitation: 4:00 PM to 7:00 PM, Wednesday, July 8 at Eddy Funeral Chapel.
Burial: Bethany Lutheran Cemetery, Robinson, ND.
