John Balster

John Balster, 77, of Jamestown, ND, passed away at Essentia Health in Fargo Friday, October 14, 2016.

John F. Balster was born January 3, 1939, in Jamestown, the son of Frank and Cecelia (Bronk) Balster. He was raised on the family farm and graduated from St. John’s Academy in 1957. John married the love of his life, Sheryl Provolt, on May 5, 1962 at St. James Catholic Church. They eventually made a home adjacent to the family farm where they raised their two daughters. They enjoyed many wonderful years together. They were an amazing couple. John loved working the land and took great pride in the crops and cattle he raised. He loved collecting and restoring John Deere tractors. He also loved attending car shows because it brought back special memories of his drag racing days in the 50’s. He looked forward to his morning coffee and conversation with his buddies at the Truck Stop. He really enjoyed the time he spent with the people at the KC Club, they were like his second family. John’s grandchildren meant the world to him. He was so very proud of each of them and loved attending their activities. Grandpa was a very special man and will be dearly missed by all who knew him.

John was an active member of St. James Basilica church and spent many years ushering. He was a Lifetime Member of the Knights of Columbus, 3rd Degree and also a member of the Calvary Cemetery Board. He was also a Farmers Union Board Member for many years.

John is survived by his daughter, Tamara (Randy) Hess and their daughter, Madison, and daughter, Stephanie (Jonathan) Zeien and their children, Alyssa, Dalton, and Miranda; sister, Mary Ann (Danny) Joyce; twin brother, James (Kristie); sister in law, Sandy (Don) Patzer; brother in law, Scott (Mariann) Provolt; numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Sheryl; parents; nephews Danny and Thomas.

Mass of Christian Burial: 10:00 a.m., Thursday, October 20, 2016 at St. James Basilica, Jamestown, ND with Father John Aerts officiating.

Visitation : 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m., Wednesday, October 19, 2016 at St. James Basilica, Jamestown.

Prayer Service: 7:00 p.m., Wednesday, October 19, 2016 at St. James Basilica, Jamestown.

Interment : Calvary Cemetery, Jamestown.
