John Van Dyke

June 13, 1920 — September 12, 2005

John Van Dyke, 85, Jamestown, North Dakota, formerly of Ypsilanti, ND, died Monday, September 12, 2005 at Hi-Acres Manor Nursing Center in Jamestown.

John Van Dyke was born June 13, 1920, son of Peter and Elizabeth (Miedema) Van Dyke at the family farm in Meadow Lake Township, near Ypsilanti. He attended Plano rural school, near Marion, ND. John married Marie Roorda on November 1, 1945 at the farm home of his sister and borther-in-law, Peter and Hattie DeVries, Marion. They lived on a farm east of Ypsilanti, which they purchased from his father where they lived and retired. They moved to Jamestown in July 2001.

John was a former member of the North Marion Reformed Church and a member of the United Presbyterian Church in Jamestown. He enjoyed farming, bowling and sporting events.

John is survived by his wife of 59 years, Marie; two sons, Darwin (Jill) Van Dyke, Minot, ND and Duane (Carla) Van Dyke, Ypsilanti; five daughters, Gladys (Jim) Ruckle, Bloomington, MN, Linda (Ken) Kylmanen, Waubun, MN, Beth (Ron) Tudahl, Post Falls, ID, Karen (Dick) Hanson, LaMoure, ND and Lavon (Jeff) Veil, Streeter, ND; 14 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents; one brother, Frank P. Van Dyke; 4 sisters, Hattie DeVries, Sadie Roorda, Rena Enger and Jeanetta Marra and two great-grandchildren, Addison and Karissa Winter.

Funeral Service: 1:30 PM, Thursday, September 15, 2005 at the United Presbyterian Church, Jamestown with Pastor David Thompson officiating.

Visitation: 4:00 to 8:00 PM, Wednesday, September 14, 2005 at the Eddy Funeral Home, Jamestown.

Burial: North Marion Reformed Church Cemetery, Marion, North Dakota
