John W. Lee, 90, Jamestown, ND, died Sunday, May 21, 2006 at Hi Acre Manor, Jamestown, ND after losing his battle with cancer.
John Willard Lee was born September 26, 1915 at Jamestown, ND the son of Carl Earl and Theresa Marie (Toay) Lee. He was raised and began school in Sidney Township, near Montpelier, ND. When his mother died on January 25, 1921, he stayed with relatives, including Dr. Helena Wink and attended elementary and high school in Jamestown, ND. On November 17, 1941, he married Bessie Ida DeLair at Dickey, ND. They farmed south of Jamestown until July of 1957 when they moved to a farm west of Montpelier. John served as township clerk of Sidney Township in the 1950's. He was a lineman for the rural telephone during this same period. He also served on the board of directors for the Klose Elevator for many years. When John retired in 1982, they moved to Jamestown. Bessie died of cancer on October 16, 1983.
On November 7, 1986, he married Catherine (Ganser) Reardon. Catherine died on April 26, 1993.
John was a member of The Basilica Of St. James, the Knights of Columbus, the North Dakota Farm Bureau, the Jamestown Order of Elks, the Eagles Club and the Jamestown Municipal Golf Course. He enjoyed playing golf, hunting and working in his yard.
Survivors include 3 sons: Myron John (Karen Kreil) Lee; Francis Allen (Deb Nething) Lee; Daniel Ryan (Cheryl Peterson) Lee, all of Jamestown; 2 daughters: Jacqualine Theresa (the late Bill) Aldinger; Linda Kathleen (Daniel) Ludwig, Brainerd, MN; 3 step-daughters: Genevieve Schubert, Seattle, WA; Jean Lowe, Suffield, CT; Margaret (Harold) McCarthy, Monterey, CA; 17 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; 10 step-grandchildren; 15 step-great-grandchildren and 4 step- great-great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, both wives, a sister, Josephine, a half-brother, Bernard Carl and a sister, Gertrude Ann, who died in infancy.
