John Long

John Long, 83, Berlin, ND, died Thursday, February 11, 2010 in his home under the care of his family.

John Eugene Long was born on September 16, 1926, in Berlin, ND to Charles Long and Clara (Freeze) Long and was raised by his father and Clara's twin sister, Theresia, after Clara died. He was raised on the family farm near Berlin. He served in the United States Army during World War II. On May 30, 1949 he married Christina Aberle at St. John's Catholic Church in Berlin, ND and they settled in the Berlin area where they raised their family.

John was a role model for his children and a leader in his church and community. He was an active member of Transfiguration Parish and the Knights of Columbus third and fourth degrees, serving as an officer on both the state and local level. He served on numerous boards including the LaMoure County Farmers Union, LaMoure County ASC and the Edgeley Credit Union. He was passionate about farming and enjoyed his days in the fields and working with his animals. He loved traveling with friends, family gatherings and enjoyed holidays and annual vacations with his children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. Those who shared in his life will remember him with great love.

John was preceded in death by his parents and brothers: Richard, Francis, Leonard and Clem Long; his sister Marcella Siebels and two grandsons, Tristan Long and Jacob Long.

He is survived by his wife Christina of 61 years; his sister, Sr. Victorine Long of St. Paul, MN; his children John and Rosalie (Gross) Long of Gackle, ND; Patricia and Eugene Hager of Washburn, ND; Mary Kathryn and Richard Schlosser of Edgeley, ND; Sr. Lillian Long of St. Paul, MN; Jeanette and Daniel Schmit of Fairmount, ND; Cindy and Jerome Bjornstad of McVille, ND; Michael and Susan (Wang) Long of Berlin, ND; Charles and Kristina (Knute) Long of Lisbon, ND; Richard and Susan (Schmidt) Long of Berlin, ND; Timothy and Lisa (Mathern) Long of Kintyre, ND and Thomas and Georgia (Tvedt) Long of Lisbon, ND; 33 grandchildren, 24 great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.

Funeral - 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, February 16, 2010 at Transfiguration Catholic Church, Edgeley, ND

Prayer Service - 7:00 p.m. Monday, February 15, 2010 at Transfiguration Catholic Church, Edgeley, ND

Visitation - 10:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Monday, February 15, 2010 at Lisko Funeral Chapel, Edgeley, ND and one hour prior to services at the church on Tuesday.

Interment - Mount Calvary Cemetery, Edgeley, ND
