John T. Victor, 92, Jamestown, North Dakota died Tuesday, November 6, 2007 at his home.
John was born June 22, 1915 at Ft. Clark, North Dakota, the son of Mike and Mary (Fisher) Victor. He attended Ft. Clark school until 2nd grade and then Harmon school through 8th grade when he lived with his Grandpa and Grandma Fisher. In 1936 John moved to Omaha, NE until 1939 when he volunteered for the US Army. He began his tour of duty in Ft. Mead, SD in the Fourth Cavalry Reconnaissance. John was stationed in England, went on to France and landed at Utah Beach on D-day Plus 3. He also took part in the Battle of Bulge. John received the Purple Heart when he was wounded during the March on Berlin. Returning home after the war, John married Esther Jeske on June 4, 1948 in Jamestown. They lived in Mullon, ID for one year before returning to Jamestown where John farmed until his retirement. Esther died on November 9, 1998 after 50 years of marriage.
John's family would like to express their appreciaton to Marilyn Teckenberg and Celeste Kellyocoski who were John's caregivers during his last months.
John is survived by one brother, Otto (Mina) Victor, Bismarck, ND; one sister, Elsie Coons, McKenzie, ND; two sisters-in-law, Virginia (Elwood) Devore, Dawson, ND and Anna Marie Victor, McKenzie, ND; several nieces and nephews and special friends, Roy & Mary Werner.
He was preceded in death by his wife; parents; one sister, Mary McCabe and three brothers, Charlie, Joe and Fred.
Funeral Service: 11:00 AM, Friday, November 9, 2007 at the First Baptist Church, Jamestown with Pastor Wayne Bangs officiating.
Visitation: 1:00 to 7:00 PM, Thursday, November 8, 2007 at the Eddy Funeral Home, Jamestown, ND.
Burial: 3:00 PM, Friday, November 9, 2007 at the North Dakota Veterans Cemetery, Mandan, North Dakota.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Fourth Cavalry Association.
