Jonathan Blumhagen

Jonathan ""Jonie"" Blumhagen, 93, Jamestown, N.D. died Friday, October 4, 2002 at Hi-Acres Manor in Jamestown, N.D.

Jonie was born May 20, 1909 in Keif, North Dakota, the son of Andrew and Susana (Martin) Blumhagen. He grew up at Kief, N.D. and attended school. He left home at the age of 14 to work as a farm hand on area farms in Cathay, Drake, and Kief, N.D.

He entered the United States Army on June 8, 1942 at Fort Snelling, Minnesota. He served until November 24, 1942 and was given a medical discharge from Fort Sam, Houston, TX.

In the fall of 1948 he purchased a farm near McHenry, N.D. where he raised grain and livestock. In 1951 he sold the farm and moved to Jamestown, N.D.

Jonie married Ida Bamesberger Roemmich on April 2, 1951.

He worked for Trinity Hospital from 1951 until 1966 as the maintance man and groundskeeper. From 1966 until 1974 he worked as maintance man and groundskeeper for Jamestown Hospital full time. Starting in 1974 he worked parttime for the Jamestown Hospital until retiring in 1981 at the age of 72. While living in Jamestown he also did yard work for various doctors. He also worked as a trades helper for Gallagher Plumbing and Heating and Scherbenske & Son Excavation Inc.

He enjoyed working in his vegetable and flower gardens. He also enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren.

Jonie is survived by his daughter and son-in-law, Loretta and Michael ""Jerry"" Clark, of Lacey, WA; a granddaughter, Lori (Michael) Burrell, of Puyallup, WA; a grandson, Jay (Kristy) Clark, of Sammanish, WA; one great granddaughter, Whitney Burrell; several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, three brothers, (Dan, Gust, and Rudy), and a sister (Carrie Braun).

Funeral Service; 11:00 A.M. - Friday, October 11, 2002 at St. John's Lutheran Church, Jamestown, N.D. with Rev. Doug Opp officiating.

Visitation: Thursday, October 10, 2002 1:00 P.M. to 9:00 P.M. Eddy Funeral Home, Jamestown, N.D.
