Joseph L. Hockert, 91, Jamestown, North Dakota died Saturday, July 27, 2002 at Hi Acres Manor, Jamestown, North Dakota.
Joseph L. Hockert was born January 15, 1911 the son of Matt and Mary (Mertz) Hockert at Clements, Minnesota. He came with his parents to the Kensal area when he was 5 years old. They farmed northeast of Kensal, where he grew up and attended rural schools in that area. He married Esther Backer on September 26, 1936 at St. John's Catholic Church in Kensal, North Dakota. They farmed until 1968 when they moved to Jamestown and he took over being the custodian at the Basilica of St. James for 20 years and at St. John's Academy for 10 years. He retired in 1988. He was a member of the Basilica and a life member of the Knights of Columbus, both Jamestown, ND. He loved his work at the Basilica, loved to farm, go fishing and playing cards. Due to poor health he entered Hi Acres Manor in March of 1997.
Joe is survived by his wife, Esther, Jamestown, ND; one son, Darrell (Margaret) Hockert, Jamestown, ND; 3 daughters, Diane (Don) Fischer, Jamestown, ND; Lynne (Ronald) Gloldrey, Gackle, ND; and Debra (Noel) Guthmiller, Fargo, ND; also 9 grandchildren and 8 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, 3 brothers, and 3 sisters.
Funeral Mass: 10:00 AM, Wednesday, July 31, 2002 at the Basilica of St. James, Jamestown, ND with Fr. Bernard Pfau officiating.
Knights of Columbus Rosary: 7:00 P.M., Tuesday, July 30, 2002 at the Eddy Funeral Chapel, Jamestown, North Dakota.
Parish Vigil: 7:30 P.M., Tuesday, July 30, 2002 at the Eddy Funeral Chapel, Jamestown, North Dakota.
Visitation: 1:00 P.M. to 9:00 P.M. Tuesday, July 30, 2002 at the Eddy Funeral Home, Jamestown, North Dakota.
Burial: Sunset Memorial Gardens, Jamestown, North Dakota.
