Josie Strankowski

Jozefa "Josie" Strankowski, 85, of Jamestown, ND, died Sunday, November 14, 2010 at her home surrounded by her family.

Jozefa Jaszczur was born January 10, 1925, in Borowa, Distr. Brzeska, Poland, the daughter of Michal and Justyna (Kasprzyk) Jaszczur. She was educated in Borowa. At age 14, Josie was forced to leave her home and family in Poland to work for a German family during WWII. Josie married Boleslaw Strankowski on September 5, 1945 in Aschaffenburg, Germany. They had one son, Richard, then emigrated to the United States in 1949. They made their home in Jamestown where Josie was a homemaker. Boleslaw "Bill" died in 1993.

Josie loved her garden, plants, birds, dogs, quilting, the Lawrence Welk show, puzzles, crocheting, and especially her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.

Josie is survived by two sons, Richard, Jamestown, and Charles (Diane Mittleider), Jamestown; two daughters, Mary (Jeff) Oster, Jamestown, and Linda (Gordon) Greenstein, Bismarck, ND; seven grandchildren, Jason Tollefson, Toledo, OH, Angela (Kirk) Davis, Jamestown, Amy (Clayton Otto) Strankowski, Moorhead, MN, Kimberly Ann Strankowski, Grand Forks, ND, Amber (Jason) Hewson, Fargo, ND, Jeremy (Katie) Greenstein, Bismarck, and Ryan Strankowski, Grand Forks; and six great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; sisters and brother; and one daughter-in-law, Kathryn Strankowski.

Private Graveside Service: Calvary Cemetery, Jamestown.

Visitation: 1;00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m., Tuesday, November 16, 2010 at Lisko Funeral Chapel, Jamestown.
