Joyce B Graham

November 9, 1934 — August 31, 2017

Joyce B. Graham, 82, Jamestown, ND passed away Thursday, August 31, 2017 at Manor Care, Fargo, ND.

Joyce Beverly Kaldahl was born November 9, 1934 at Glenwood, MN to Florence Haberman Kaldahl and Orin Clifford Kaldahl. When she was 9 months old, the family moved to Remer, MN so that children could attend church school. There was a large Adventist community called “The Settlement” where she attended one room school through 4th grade, then back to Glenwood area for grades 5-8. She attended Maplewood Academy in Hutchinson, MN a Christian boarding academy, graduating in 1952.

When she was 15, she met the love of her life, Clyde C. Graham. They married June 30, 1953. They had 5 children: Craig, Jeffrey, Janelle, and twins: Jody and Jay. Clyde passed away December 15, 2011, after 58 ½ years of marriage. She was raised with eight brothers and sisters. Joyce was the middle child with 2 older brothers and sisters, and 2 younger brothers and a sister below her. She loved the large family, plus the large Adventist family of her childhood from the “North Country.”

Joyce was raised in a Christian home and has been an active church member since childhood. She is a member of the Fargo Red River Valley SDA Church upon her death, formerly the Jamestown and Cleveland SDA church respectively.

She and Clyde raised their family in the Minneapolis area until 1972, when they bought a huge farm house near Spring Valley, Wisc. The family was raised there until 1987 when the twins graduated from high school.

Joyce wanted to be a Nurse from childhood but enjoyed marriage and motherhood. After 25 years of marriage, she went to Nursing School (1978). She had also taken an EMT course the prior year and worked with the Spring Valley Ambulance and Spring Valley Nursing Home; first as a CNA, then as an LPN. In November 1987, she started working at the Minneapolis Veterans Hospital. In 1989, she received an Excellence in Nursing award as LPN of the Year, working on the Medical wards and long-term care. In 1990, she began working in the ER and clinic area until her retirement in 1999.

Clyde and Joyce bought a house in the woods in the Pequot Lakes and Pine River, MN area until 2006, when they moved to Jamestown, ND.

She is survived by her 5 children: Craig Graham, Fargo, ND; Jeff Graham (Veloy Kay), Jamestown, ND; Janelle Tucker, Jamestown, ND; Jody (Jim) Nelson, Coon Rapids, MN; Jay Graham, Stillwater, MN; three grandchildren Joshua Graham (Kerri), Trempealeau, WI; Cole Tucker (Megan), Jamestown, ND; Sarah Tucker, Jamestown, ND; one great-grandchild, Skylar Graham, Trempealeau, WI; siblings Evelyn Visgar, Walla Walla, WA; Robert Kaldahl (Regina), Hoyt Lakes, MN; Cathleen Gould, Minneapolis, MN; Eugene (Pat) Kaldahl, Olathe, KS; Karen (Arlie) Fandrich, Lincoln, NE; sisters-in-law Peggy Kaldahl, Elk River, MN and Coleen Kelley Weber, Sioux Falls, SD. A host of nieces and nephews spread across the country, who were very near and dear to her.

Preceded in death by her husband, parents, four brothers Lloyd and Roger (in infancy), Lawrence and Gordon Kaldahl; one sister Lucille McKellip; also, one brother-in-law John Gould.

Joyce lived her faith daily. It is her wish that we all do that.
