Joyce (Krueger) Roorda

Joyce Elaine (Krueger) Roorda, 91, passed away peacefully on February 19, 2023 at SMP Ave Maria under the care of JRMC Hospice and her loving family. Joyce was the oldest child and only daughter born to Allen and Verda (Schmidt) Krueger on February 13, 1932 at the home of her maternal grandparents in rural Enderlin, ND. She attended Ransom County Elementary Schools and graduated from Enderlin High School in 1950. Joyce then attended Interstate Business College and worked at the Fargo Forum and the General office of Crane Johnson Lumber Co, all Fargo, ND.

On October 15, 1954, she married Arnold Roorda of Ypsilanti, ND. They farmed northwest of Marion, ND for 37 years, then moved to Jamestown, ND where they have lived for 31 years. Joyce was a farm homemaker, keeping busy with children, school and church activities. Joyce accepted Jesus as her savior at a young age and served faithfully as a member of the North Marion Reformed Church and later at the First Church of the Nazarene. She was a committee member and treasurer of the SE Chapter of Child Evangelism Fellowship for 17 years and also a cook at Good News camps. She volunteered over 5000 hours in the gift shop at the Jamestown Hospital, now JRMC. Her joys in life were family, flower gardening, collecting Precious Memories figurines, cooking and baking. She entertained many with her hospitality and delicious meals. Joyce and Arnold enjoyed going to Medora when the children were small and continued to do so as often as possible over the years. They traveled to Europe, Israel and many states including Hawaii, Florida, California and Connecticut.

Joyce is survived by husband Arnold Roorda of 68 years; two daughters and two sons, Arnola Aichele, (Larry); Kevin (Cindy) Roorda; Neil (Carla) Roorda; Rachel (Keith) Alber. Grandchildren: Kristina (Ryan) Schantz; Austin Aichele (Brittany); Taylor Roorda; Jamison Roorda; Andrea (Ryan) Adkins; Blake (Shawnee) Roorda; Ryan (Chelsey) Alber; Kailey (Tanner) Lunzman. Great grandchildren: Kensie and Calin Schantz; Cambrie Huber; Carter and Crosby Alber. Brothers: Harold (Alice Marie) Krueger; Marvin (Caryl) Krueger and many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

Joyce was preceded in death by her parents, grandson Rusty Aichele, brother and sister-in-law Dennis and Jean Krueger.

Prayer Service – 7:00 p.m., Friday, February 24, 2023 at Eddy Funeral Home, Jamestown.

Visitation – 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m., Friday, February 24, 2023 at Eddy Funeral Home

Spring Burial – North Marion Reformed Cemetery, rural Marion, ND.
