Jamestown

Judy Ann Jensvold was born February 15, 1944 to R.C. (Buster) and Beatrice (Graves) Jensvold in Jamestown ND. She was raised in Jamestown and graduated from Jamestown High School in 1962. In the 9th grade she met a boy from the wrong side of the tracks, and it soon became apparent that Darrell and Judy were destined to be together. They married a year after graduating and continued to honeymoon in Jamestown for the next 62 years. Judy worked a few retail jobs until raising three children became her full-time profession. She later worked several years in administration at Lincoln Elementary and as Executive Director of the Buffalo Valley Red Cross Chapter. She was most proud of raising her family and protected them fiercely. She always balanced the budget to make sure they could take annual family vacations. The kids were packed up in vans or campers and traveled a few weeks each summer, eventually visiting most of the United States. Weekends were spent on various boats or pontoons they owned over the years. She was an avid music lover and angler along with the rest of the family, and made many fishing trips to the Flin Flon, Manitoba area. She loved to travel for Darrell’s softball, bowling, or golf trips. Eventually, these trips were to watch the kids play, then the grandkids. Judy was a lifelong cheerleader of her family’s sports and activities and was well known as the hat lady, as she was rarely seen without one of her colorful hats. She did not have many vices, but did enjoy a Diet Coke and a trip to a casino when the opportunity presented itself. Fortunately, Judy and Darrell enjoyed 24 years of retirement, so the opportunities were frequent to have fun. Judy enjoyed traveling with Darrell to visit friends and family around the country, often times during the winter in AZ. One of her favorite parts of their long retirement was getting to watch her grandchildren grow to be adults. She was so proud of them and was excited to meet her first great-grandchild expected this summer. She battled several illnesses the last few years but always looked forward to the next adventure or weekend away. Judy also maintained her crazy, warped sense of humor, and she is the one to blame for passing it on to her children!

She is survived by her husband Darrell, son Kevin (Candace Guthmiller) Jamestown, daughter Julie (Steve) Bennion, Jamestown, son Jason (Missy), Sioux Falls SD; Grandchildren Sierra and Brady Hoggarth Fargo ND, Cole and Hailey Bennion Jamestown, Jacob Metzger and Jenna Metzger, Sioux Falls SD, Step Grandchildren Dustin Guthmiller and Micayla Guthmiller, Step Great Grandson Peyton Guthmiller, and Sister Bonnie Olson (Gary) Jamestown.
