Juletta (Gohman) Klein, "Julie" passed away on July 12, 2013.
Julie had been a resident of Jamestown, ND since 1990. Julie was born on April 26, 1918 to Diedrick and Minnie (Monethy) Gohman in St. Cloud, MN. Her mother passed away in 1956 and her father in 1965. She was the youngest of six children, all of her siblings, Mable, Pearl, Walter, Lester, and Clarence preceded her in death with many living well into their 90's.
She was raised on the family farm along the banks of the Mississippi River near St. Cloud, MN. She recalled "The Great Depression" or "Dirty 30's" as a very difficult time in their lives. She often said, "You couldn't buy a job." She remembered the hard times the family endured to keep from starving. They raised chickens and cows in order to sell the eggs and cream to purchase the basic essentials and planted vegetables for canning for the winter months. Her father made sure the taxes were paid every year to keep from losing the land.
Julie learned to play her Dad's fiddle and later the violin throughout her school years and enjoyed tap dancing. Julie graduated from St. Cloud Technical Senior High School in 1936. She met Harold Joseph Klein on a blind date in early 1937. Little did Harold know that he would be meeting the same young gal that he had seen tap dancing at Cable Hall and had remarked to his friends, "I'd sure like to meet that gal." They were married April 25, 1937 and spent their early married years in the St. Cloud area before moving to the family farm south of Berlin, ND in 1945 where they raise grain and livestock. In 1969 they moved to Glenwood, MN. Harold worked for Clyde Machines and W.A.S.P. They purchased a home next to Lake Minnewaska. Julie worked for Torgy's Resort and Restaurant as the head cook. The local patron's praised her cooking. They knew if Julie had made it, it would be good!
Julie is survived by eight children, Delores Overacker, Weiser, ID, Joan (Ralph) Studebaker, Casa Grande, AZ, Barbara (Paul) Lackman, Jamestown, ND, Jean (Bob) Kindle, Pierre, SD, Harold Jr. (Arlyce) Klein, Jamestown, ND, Kathy (Dennis) Rupp, Chandler, AZ, Peg (Gary) Otte, Sauk Centre, MN and Patty Klein, Alexandria, MN; 21 grandchildren; 15 great grandchildren; and 5 great great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Harold in 1985; granddaughter, Lori Lackman in 1970; son-in-law, James Symanski in 1980; son-in-law, David Overacker in 1981; son-in-law, Duane Rausch in 2001; and grandson, Wyatt Klein in 2012.
One of her greatest passions in life was collecting dolls. She collected over 100 dolls. Each one had a name and some reminded her of her own children and grandchildren. She was proud to show everyone her collection and took great joy in giving them to her children and grandchildren later in life.
She enjoyed listening to "old country music" as she would refer to it, "not the kind that you hear now." She loved watching the old classic movies, the great movies as she called them, not the stuff that is filmed now." She enjoyed spending time with her family and always enjoyed a glass or two of her favorite, "White Zin." She lived a long and healthy life for many years and remained very independent until she was diagnosed with congestive heart failure in February 2012.
"A Mother's love is like a circle; it has no ending. It keeps going around and around ever expanding, touching everyone who comes in contact with it." Julie's love for her family was that circle. Her family loved her and will miss her, but will always hold the love in their hearts that she shared with all of them.
