Julius Hoff, 83, Jamestown, North Dakota died Saturday, December 27, 2008 at Jamestown Hospital.

Julius Hoff was born May 22, 1925 in Linton, North Dakota, the son of Jacob and Christina (Boetcher) Hoff. He went to country school in Linton. Julius worked on his dad's farm before enlisting in the Army Air Corps on November 19, 1945. He was honorably discharged in January 1946. Upon his return to North Dakota, he worked for a rancher in Steele for 8 years before moving to Jamestown in 1954. On November 6, 1954 Julius married Genevieve Peterson and they had three children. He worked for Feton Lumber Company from 1954 to 1967. Due to health issues, he had to quit the lumber yard and in December 1968 he began his shoe shining career at his shoe shine stand at the Park Plaza Shopping Center. He retired from the stand in December 1988, but continued to shine shoes at his home, due to the continued demand. He was still shining a pair of shoes or boots here and there throughout the years up to a week before he passed away.

Julius enjoyed playing bingo and spending time with his family. He was a life member of the DAV, a member of the American Legion and Eagles club.

Julius is survived by his wife of 54 years, Genevieve; two sons, Larry (Lori) Hoff and Marvin Hoff, both of Jamestown; one daughter, Janet (Tom) Seitz, Bismarck, ND; four grandchildren, Brody, Allyssa, Kylie and Broc; three step-grandchildren, Wade, Amber, and Cody; one great-grandson, Bryce; one step-sister, Erna (Verlyn) Bauer, Washburn, ND, one sister-in-law, Amanda Hoff; and many nieces, nepehws and cousins.
